The "Cluett" gave the ship a line. and literally dragged her through the mud past Mac- Eacherns point. It has been noticed that during recent years there has been a serious silt fill-in in the “whannel so that at present there is barely i5 feet of water in certain places. Last winter the government surveyed this fill-in but no work was done in clearing the channel. There is definite need of dredging the whole channel from Montague almost to Lower Monte/ill! 1°!‘ many ships are having difficulty 1H getting in to Montague. Without doubt a. far greater number of ships would come to Montague if there were ample water for deep drawing vessels. Such increased shipping would meana greet deal to export trade of Montelllfi In‘! be of great benefit to the district as a whole. However, until the river is dredged. the lure vessels will continue to have difficulty coming up the river and it N hOPQd that thla necessity will be looked after next summer. ‘i’ NOTICE Buying Live and Dressed IN MEMORIAM Mrs. Guorge Mason. who died Nov ember 17th, 1047.
