Charlottetown will have this privilege, Friday, Jany. 5. Capt. John L. Read, C. G. B. Earl Grey, city, returned yesterday after- noon on the Northumberland after spending Christmas at his horne in Plctou. Prof. Alexander McPhall of Queens University, has arrived from Kings- ton. Untnrlo. He was in the city yes- terduy and will be on hansd for nom- ination today. It is understood that hc wllL not be opposed by any Liber- al cundldnte. A Prince Edward Island Indian, Mitchell by name, was in to~wn on Frlduy with about 20 pearls, taken from Island oysters which he was offering for sale at $5 and $10. He did not dispose of many here and went to Halifax to sell the remaind- er. Some of the pearls were of good size and very pretty.-Picton Advo- cate. The l“redcrict.on, N. B., Herald says:-“It in understood that Willard Kitchen, the prominent contractor and-capitalist. of this city, will re- move to the Canadian west early in the new year with thc intention of locating there if conditions are favor- able. The news of Mr. Kit(-.hen’s re- moval will be received with regret by all residents of Fredericton, .as he has always been closely connected with the public institutions of the city a|d has always been a. public spirited citizen. Mr. Kitchen has been a member of the Fredericton Board or School Trustees for some years. and has also been prominent on the hoard of trustees of Victoria Public Hospital. He has also been a prom inent member of St. Paul’s Presby- terian church.” (Mr. Kitchen was the contractor for the Belfast and Mur- ray Harbor and Montague Railways.) Among the passengers to the .city on the Northumberland last evening wus Daniel Skinner, Georgetown, who had accompanied the remains of the late' Mrs. (Capt.) Dicks, of St. Pet- er’s Canal, C. B., to Pictou where they were met by the husband of the deceased. James Skinner, George- town, who crossed with his brother, went to St. Pcter's with the deceas- ed husband, who met the remains in Picton. An impressive funeral service was conducted at Georgetown by Rev. Mr. Toombs, after which a large number of citizens followed the _re- mlnins to the station. The pall-bear ers' were: Messrs. John Smith, T. E. Morrissey, J, D. Stewart, E. Doyle, R. R. McLean and A. E. Jenkins. The remains were accompanied h-. Daniel Skinner and will be met by Capt. Dicks at Picton. Seldom does death occur under such sad circum- stances as in the case of the late Mrs. Dicks. She was just in her 23rd year, the only daughter of a widowed mother, and had been married only about three weeks. Apparently she had been in thebloom of health, even on the night previous to her death when her husband left home to set sail for Glace Bay. The rlcccased was a, woman of splendid character and disposition and during her short stay of two weeks in her new home had cu- dcared herself to those who knew her. To the bcl‘cn.\'e
