But I beg to Je:ve to info'a ‘him that at the present time the roads are io amo-t vn, erfec’ e>ndition resu ting from Grit tuismanagement. The bridges are in many places impassible, and itis no nocommon sight to see a fence pole tower ing in the middle of a bridge on sentry as a warving that there are One or two broken planks in the bridge. Const quent~ ly the traveller is compelled to tura to the side of the road and jolt over stones and ruts and sometimes crossa running stream. I would mention one bridge in particular situated on tbe Mulberry Road nota quarterofamile from Brookfield Hal! where the Premier discanted in his most bombastic manner on his political virturs and good roads. This bridge has been in amost critical condition for over two years, which fact hus been brought to the Priemer’s notice on several occa- sions, and some time ago a gentleman driving alcng the road bad {the extremely unpleasant experience of breaking through it. It is gratifying to knew that he got out of the aifficulty without, any serious injury, but the bridge still remains in a broken up condition and the enly means of passage is by taking the side of the road and crossing @ running stream about fifteen feet wide and four feet deep or else take acourse which meaus six extra miles of travel. The latter course ouly is available for persons with a load of any kind. The people are taxed for the purpose of keeping up the roade and bridges, road machines are bought at high pricee, supervisors are paid salaries, extra men get high pay for road machines—in fact ifthe amount of money paid for pub j lie works’ meant good roads it would be a pleasure to travel.
