CONVALESCENT . _.SOLDlER'S FUND.-The generous act of the Ro-i ulrians in donating. a. gramaphone and n dozen records to the Convalescent Home is greatly appreciated. by the officers of the staff and the nursing sisters as well as by the soldiers for whose benefit it was presented. This will greatly relieve the burden upon the fund elsewhere acknowledged in this issue' and which, although grow- ing, Ls not yet sufficiently large to un- dertake any extensive purchasing. The fund, however, which will be -placed in the hands of the Matron, will be used as required for such means of enter- as the soldier patient may need. For the present, while all the patients are on the first floor one gramophone will suffice and part of the fund on hand will bc used in providing__additional records while any further donations of Disc records will be appreciated. DEBATING SOCIETY.-The debate held ou Monday evening November 18th by St. Dllnstan’s' Senior Debating Society was one which proved most interesting for all present. The sub- ject discussed by the debabors invol- ved many subtle questions concerning two oi the most popular _forms of Go- vernment, the resolution being “Re- solved tllat", from the peoples stand~ point the Limited Monarchy ls tt more beneficial form of Government than the “11epublic". The two leaders. who were most capn-ble for such a task, won the admiration of the Society for the manner in which they treated such an abstruse subject. Mr. M. E. Fran- cis was leader of the pro side while 'Ml-. M. McQuoid was leader of the can side. The resolution was carried. ln the absence of Rev. Father Poirer Rev. Father Mctluigan acted as mod- erator and critic and his remarks nn theclose of the debate were most in- structive and impressive, a vote of thanks was rendered him after which the meeting adjourned.
