And. . and. .oh yes the B.Y.C. and the Aces tied at Summorside, that's 1A point aach. . . . Don't mind as folks wa'rs only practicing for ths months shsad when we will ho up to our can is crasinmlnd-up statistics. You soc. this writer bap- pens to be the Island league's sta- tistician and we have to keep in shape, although we are afraid it will take a chsrtarad accountant aided and abetted by one of those big thinking machines to keep the iocords straight this year. If you think you can follow us. people. we'll take a slow walk avar this twisted ha! of fill"! and paint sat scans at iatarost as we go. To begin with the Sum- mersldc Aces have been granted the privilege of playing twice as many home games as t of the teams and four times as staa's. and intercollegiate committmenta will be playing only half as many games as any other team. So you see that all Snmmcrsldo hams games will he warth only as pots - at p& to sack team if a its action. And all games involving S.D.U. will be worth four points oxcept when 8. D.U. is playing at dummoraidc. in which case the limo will ho worth I points. hacauso. as ws said hsfaro lammarslda H play- ing twice as many home games as anybody else. So it's really all very simple. All g a in c s in Summcrside are worth no point each. Got mat??? Good. llxcapt whoa I.D.U. is the visitor. Then the game is worth 2 points. Okay so far?'.' Fine. Now when the Saints are playing In Charlottetown their games are worth 4 points - playing only half the schedule. You know. So if the Saints and Summorsids tie in Char- lottetown each gets 2 points - the some as a victory over any other team in Charlottetown. But if they tie in lummcrslda they get only one point aach. Still with us??? lo lusnntarsida will hava to win two games on home ice to garner two points, which "is soul to a victory in one game. against any opposition except S.D.U. - in Char- lottctown. Yet a tie against the saints in Summerslds is the same five or six nights, and an invitation has been extended to any hockey player in the county to attend these practices to try out for a position on the Aces team. team who have already signed with the Aces for this season are Ron MacArthur. Last r the team advanced to senior "3" competition within the Island Senior Hockey League, lost five of, its star players during the winter, and failed to make the playoffs The history of the aces began in that will likely give them the loagns leadership. No. Hold it. Tho saints have won two in I row at Charlottetown that puts than on top with 0 points. That makes soase. Or should wa say that makes sense??? Actually folks, it isn't as bad as and that because all teams will gat equal chance against the Saints and although the system seems to leave S.D.U. with a big advantage and the Aces at a disadvantage don't forget that the other teams will get a chaiics to win those four pointers and it was the Aces management that requested a lar- ger number of home games. The Saints, by virtue of play- ing only half the schedule. have last about Unqualified themsel- vss from winning any honors in the scoring race. While on the other hand the Aces arc in a good position to come lip with a scor- lng leader, having those extra games on home too. we better shut up before the Issue decides to sun Itlsgs up by scoring two points for all st. All the players on the iveam wers of juvenile age. and this team was defeated by F: t wn in tho semi- finals. in 1952-53 this high school team again entered the Bedeque League. and again lost to Freetown in the seml-finals with a team composed largely of the some players as the previous year. CONBTIIUCT NEW RINK in 1953-54 construction on the new rink in Summ side was begun and the team. realising that they would be playing in the Summcrslda rink after Christmas, decided to form as intermediate hockey team in Summersidc. After falling to get a sponsor, the players held a meeting and Laysh Schurman, Thane Baglole. and Garth Gay, were named to a com- mittee to organize a dance for the purpose of raising funds with which to purchase uniforms for the players. This dance, at the Imperial Diner. netted about 8127.00. and the hockey club was reorgan- ized and named the Summcrslde Aces. with Laysh Schurman as President, Garth Gay as Vice- .'-tnesident, and Thane Baglole as Secretary - Treasurer, with funds from the dance the teams when we are well all. Of course for a brain as aglla and varsatilc as that of ths league statistician theso mixed up figures won't ha any problem.
