While energetic efforts are being made | to promote inter-provincial trade in the exst, it is encouraging to see that the west is not forgotten. A late number of the “Daily Colonist,’ of Victorio, B. C., says :—*‘‘ A large portion of the merchan- dise received by Monday’s steamer was of Canadian manufacture and production. A heavy falling off in the volume of trade with Great Britain, the Eastern States and San Francisco is noticeable, and there is every probability that Canadian goods of every description will shortly capture the markets of the Province.’ “~—eme + H'inances of Quebec The Montreal ‘‘ Gazette’ says :—The fiaances of this Province have been brought, under the administratiou of the Jolly Government, into even a more des- perate condition thav we had imagined possible in so short a time, if the report be correct that another $500,000 loan has been negotiated in New York. We know that some three months ago the Govern- ment negotiated a $3,000,000 loan in that market, and it was generally supposed that the proceeds would enable them to carry on the affairs of the Province for several months, but already this amount has apparently been exhausted, for a few days there has been transferred from New York to the credit of the Govern- ment at the Merchants’ Bank ia this city the sum of $500,000, and this money is distinct from the recently negotiated loan. mom »--—---— The Khedive’s Abdication. The news of the abdication of the Khe- dive of Egypt at the demand of France and England will tend to relieve the minds of those who saw in the aspect of Egyp- tian affairs the prospect of future difficul- ties and complications for the great Kuro- pean powers. he Khedive was at one time regarded as an enlightened and pro-. gressive ruler, but his extravagance has proved ruinous to Egypt and the civiliz~ ation of which he was supposed to be the representative, has proved to be but barbarism ia disguise. His abdication has been brought about in consequence of his refusel to abide honestly by the en— gagements he entered into with regard to the financial affairs of Egypt, and will, no doubt, prove a great benefit to that coun- try. It will also relieve the Sultan of the embarrassment of having a too powertul Viceroy, who was scarcely a subject, and who might at any time cast the weight of his influence against him in a European conflict. «w;we@e ———-- - —- Sir Garnet's Appointment. The London correspondent of the Liv- erpool ‘ Post’’ says that, if what he hears be true, Sir Garnet Wolseley owes his new appointment to something like an official hurricane. Colouel Stanley received from Lord Chelmsford a pressing application for three more regiments to be despatch- ed to the Cape immediately. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, who will have to find the money for the war, was particularly oppressed by the demand and even the Prime Minister himself looked upon it asa poser. Sir Garnet Wolseley, who had arrived in London, was asked to take over the command. He assented and so energetically did the Government act that the appointment was made by the War Office without pre- vious consultation with his Royal High- ness the Commander-in-Chief. The whole thing seems to have been the work ofa single morning. The energy and ex- pedition which the Government manifest- ed seem to have given general satisfaction. Liver is King. The liver is the imperial organ of the whole human system, as it controls the life, health and happiness of man. When it is disturbed in its proper action, all kinds of ailments are the natural result. The di- gestion of foed, the movements of the heart and blood, the action of the brain and ner- vous system, are all immediately connected with the workings of the liver. It has been successfully proved that Green’s August Flower is unequalled in curing all persons afflicted with dyspepsia or liver complaint, and all the numerous symptoms that result from an unhealthy condition of the liver and stomach. Hear what a Reverend Gentleman says of the Constitutional Ren.edy. T. J. B. Harprxe, Esq., Brockville, Ont. :— Dear Srr—It is now two years since your ‘‘Censtitutional Catarrh Remedy’ was intro- duced to me. I have waited this ong to see if the cure would remain permanent before do- ing this, my duty, to you, as at first the happy effects seemed to me to be “‘too good to true.” suspected it to be Catarrh. In reading in yeur Circular I saw my case described in man ‘ ticulars. The inward ‘‘drop” from the head had become very disagreeable, and a choking sensation often preventing me from lying long, I would feel like smothering and be compelled to sit upin the bed. My health and spirits were seriously affected. When your agent came to Walkertown in August, 1876, I secured three bottles. Before I had used a quarter of the contents of one bottle I found decided re- lief, and when I had used two bottles and a third, I quit taking it, feeling quite cured of that ailment, and have not used any since until of late I have taken some for a cold in my head, A sense of duty to sufferers from that loath- some disease, Catarrh, prompts me to send you this Certificate, unsolic.ted, with leave to make what use of it yon may see proper Yours truly, W. TINDALL, Methodist Minister. Port Elgin, Ont., Aug. 24, 1878. Ask for Littlefield’s Constitutional Catarrh | Remedy and take no other. T. J. B. Harpixe, Dominion Agent, Brock- ville, Ont.
