Caledonia Summer The second term of the Calo- lonla Summer Bible School outdid he school held during the summer 1f 1928. 83 pupils were enroll“! in the school this year and there was on average daily attendance o! 30. This school was held from "i to 11:80 A- M. every day for ten days, July 18-29. Many ot the :l_1ildren and young people came ’rom a distance o! three miles to he church and never missed a day. The Dai-ly Vacation Bible Schools mend much time with basket weav- ng, hundwork, and so on-lto keep 1p the interest. But this is atrictly an all-Bible School. This 1CIl00l followed the system of work mapped outby Dr. A. L. Latbem 1f Chesinr, Pennsylvania. Dr. Lalthom held a similar school in his Church, Cheater Presbyterian Church in 1928, with over 600 pup- ils enrol-led for the twelfth consecu- zicc year- The enthusiasm of the pupils in the Caledonia School is avidcnco that such secondary :hings as basket-weaving and handwork are not necessary to in- ‘crest tbs children in the study of the Bible. The curriculum of courses in the school are as follows:-- a. Assigned portions of Scrip 1'6. b. The Bible the Christian's Sac- 'ed ‘Book. c. The Life of Jesus. r d. A history course—Adam to Saul, and Saul to Christ. e- The Primary 8t Shorter Cato- chism. f. The Apostle Paul. g. The Twelve Apostles. This is all memory work. During the two weeks time. the zhildren learned an average of b3 verses of Scripture, 46 questions in The Bible the Christian's Sacred Book, 47 questions in the anemi- catechism. 55 questions Life of Jesus‘, 53 questions in the book ‘Adam to Saul‘. The school was graded in-to six classes ac- wording to the public school grad- 111g. pwhtlng two grades in one dass. The teachers were Mise- zs Christine Bruce. Margaret Mac- Leau, Catherine Bruce, Mnrdlnn Munn, Belle Bruce and Mr. Char- les Walkor- Mr. McDowell, past- or of Caledonia Presbyterian church was the superintendent of the lBhOCvl. 1t was finally necessary to secure ten teachers just to hear the children recite what they had learned. Misses Margaret Stew- 1rt, Florence Stewart, May Mac- Kinnon, and Mr. John MacGowan tlso assisted with the teaching. On Sunday morning, July 31, the closing exercises of the school vere held in the Church. Every seat was occupied by those inter- osted in the school. It was i11- ioed an inspiration to see the 80 children march into the church singing ‘Wonderful Words of Life‘ and to hear them recite together‘ and individually 150 verses of Scripture and other important in- formation of the Bible, all from memory, without forgetting a word. They also sang the hymns that they had learned during the term of school. The hour and half pue- sed all too quickly for the intcr- ested audience. On Monday the school went on a picnic to Murray River, where a very happy time was enjoyed to- gether- At sunset the pupils gath- ered quietly on the hillside, over» looking the river, and song togetl1- ‘or the hymns they had learned to» lovc, and ropes-ted together the Scriptures that had become treas- ure to them. Then they formed th-e Friendship circle and praised God for the Tie that had bound thclr hearts together in- Christian love by singing. "Blest Be the Tie that Binds". We ‘will be glad to assist. others in starting such u school. NEW LONDON ITEMS. Mr. Eric realm. student of Acadia University, is spending his vacation at. his home in New London. Mr. and Mrs. Ira.
