The Mr. I-iowatt to whom the memorial was dedicated was born in this Province and studied law with the firm of McLean l! McKlnnon in this City before migrating to West- ern Canada. WETASKIWIN - At a recent morning service of First United Church, the l-Iowatt memorial was dedicated by the minister, Rev. R. D. Binning. This memorial gift o! a brass cross with pair of match- ing vases, all handwrought, for the communion table. was donated by friends in memory of the late Bruce Dawson Hewett. Besides being a highly-esteemed citizen, the late Mr. liowatt was an active member of long stand- ing on the committee of stewards of this church. Also that morn- ing was the primary promotion service of about 75 children. ' Mrs. A. Rossander, superintend- ient of the primary, assisted. GEORGE COUSINS‘ The death of Mrs. George Cou- sins, nee Iaaurina Woodside, came with startling suddenncss, at her home at Kensington on Sunday. June 12th, i949. For a number oi ycars her health had been s. mat.- ter of concern, limiting her amv. iiies to a certain extent. However, she had been about as usual and the shock was so muoh the great- er when she was found in her room in an unconscious condition. Medical aid was immediately sum- moned and members of her fam- ily were called to her aide, but she passed away without regaining consciousness. She was born at Clinton, ‘I6 years ago, and was a resident of Long River, before moving with her husband and family to Kensington nearly twenty years ago. She was of a bright and sociable disposi- tion, and will besadly missed by s host oi friends. as well as by her family, to whom she was a kind ad aflectionato mother. Don- ald is one of the outstanding young men in the Province ot Quebec; raised on a farm in the great dairy district of Ormstown; his father died when the family was young and they know what it is to cope with difficulties on the farm. Donald came into promin- ence a few years ago as a Calf Club member and for his ability as a judge of dairy cattle. At Sher- brooke Exhibition he was high main in the Judging Competition in 1946. in the same year he was high in the dairy judging team at Toronto and won the Family Her- ald and Weekly Star Trophy at Ormstown Exhibition both in 1948 and I947. In I946 he attend- ed Macdonald College, taking the Diploma. course and has also tak- en a course in artificial insemina- tion at St. Hyaclnthe, -snd has been approved by all three dairy Breeds in Quebec. His brother John McCaig, is the advanced registry inspector, suc- ceeding William Hunter. Donald McCaig has been visiting breed- ers in Quebec and the Maritirnes and has been well received wherever he has gone and he is looking forward to a most suc- cessful career with the Jersey breeders.
