George Tuntou first came to this country
in lbllll in a ship from Bidcford as ship
carpenter, going up to French Village
(now St. Elcsnors). He became cnnmourcd

French cottages, whilst the sons of

_beautiful harbour of'Bedeque. I-le return-
ed to England* and induced his olficst‘
brother lo' come here from Plymouth
where hc resided, engaging in commercial
enterprises. George Tanton left England
for the lu.-u time in the spring of 1822 with
his wife to whom he was ,lust married, a
Miss Wood. lie purchased the lnud on
which his grandson Albert Tanton now
ives, where he resided during the rest oi
`h`ls life. He was a wcil~bullt man over (i
fest high, proverbially hospitable and
generous. He was fifty four years `old at
the time of his death, and besides his
widow left nine chilflrcn, live girls and
four boys to mourn their loss.0f thcse,tvvo

'other seven were at home. George the
oldest boy was about 14 years old when
the sad event occurred, and upon him da-
volved the main cure of the farm. As the
years went on they all got lnarricd, and
