Mr. Beaten was the son of Mr. and" Mrs. John Benton, who came from the Isle oi Skye quite a number ot years ago and settled wt Victoria Cross. It was here that the de- ceased was born. In ‘the family of Mr. and Mn. John Benton there were eight members: four sona and four daughters. Of-these, only five now remain. The sons, besides. the are Norman Benton, St. Eleanor’; Alex Benton, Edmonton, and;Angus Beaton, Wlnsloe; and the daughters are Mrs. Flora Buchanaw and Mrs‘. Euplzemia. Hayes, both of‘ Vancouv er, B. C. _ Two other daughters died when quite young, one at the age oi i6 and the other at the age of 18. Mr. Archibald Benton was a man who was well and widely known. In his early tccns he set out to make his own way in the world. He tra- velled far and wide. At one time or another in his life he worked ' in every one of the United ‘States rind in - every other country north oi the Equator.‘ He was one bf the pion- eers oi the Kloniiyke and went in ‘on the famous tall of "ninety-seven." l-le spent two ' years in want great northland. ' Afler he‘ retirned from having made good in the Klondyke, he married Miss Mary Campbell, daugh- ter of the late Donald E. Campbell. formerly oi Darlington. but later of Charlottetown, and ' settled. at 0'Lcary. Herc he and his family lived until some fourteen years ago ‘when they moved to Winsloe where they have since resided. v v - Mr. Benton was a man who tool: e. deep interest in all that pertained to the good of the school, of the church and of the community as a whole. Hc was a loyal supporter of the Prcsbytcrian Church in Canada nnd al the time of the disruption in i925 he stood true to "the faith oncc de- livered to the saints." He was a lnan mcnt. and as a result. he was a wise counsellor. He will be much missed in the different sphere: of activity, but more especially will his loss be felt in the home. ARCIIIBALD BEATON / The people of Winaloe and vicinity were very much shocked when on lwcdnesday, April 1st, word was sent hround that Mr. Archibald Beaten, o very highly ed resident of Winsloe, had passed peacefully away at the ago o.‘ 71 years. The deceased had- been in his usual fairly good conditaion oi health until a few days before the coming cf the end. Almost without warning his health became much worse and he suffered chiefly from what seemed to have beena slight stroke of paralysis. From this he never fully rallied. All that medical ekill and kind attention could do was done but to no avail. He sank grad- ually until on the above mentioned date his gentle spirit winged its heavenward flight. Hesidel a rorrowing widow who was a daughter of the late Donald l. Campbell, Charlottetown, Mr. Benton leaves to mourn the iosa of a kind and loving father, two sons, and one conducted by Rev. R. Hensley Stav- ert, assisted by Rev. G. A. Grant, and was a very impressive one.
