November 25,1997 Student union report So what is going on at the Barn I hope everyone is sur- viving the last few weeks until exams. Things are starting to slow down here a bit at the SU. Security review interviews are happening on campus, and some of your Student Council- lors will be taking part to en- sure campus safety. We had our lastcouncil meeting for the term last Sunday night — thanks to all councillors for your hard work and dedica- tion. There are still some t- shirts that will make really great Christmas gifts for just about anybody: only 7 dollars. The Union is still concerned about the Health Center and its fu- ture, we are doing our best to ensure that we will not lose any part of this excellent serv- ice. We would like to thank the Health Center Staff — Dr. Lund, Sharon Mullin-Zimmer- mann and Sharon Currie forall your help and service this year. Last Saturday at the Open House a few visitors popped out of the rain and into the Barn, we had some neat dis- plays from the sub-organiza- tions and lots ofhelium. Don’t forget, if you need alittle stress release come down to the Barn! Janice Broderick President The yearbooks are in! The yearbooks are in! Yes, it’s only November, but the 1997 yearbooks have arrived. They can be picked up at the Yearbook Office (Main 09), and they are also being sold this week in the Breezeway. As always, the books are free to graduates, andare only $10 forthe rest of us. What better way to re- member the good times at UPEI? Many, many, many, many thanks go to the staff and volunteers who put to- gether the book. They did an excellent job, and in record time. As many of you know, one of the Counsellors from Stu- dent Development retired over the summer, and was not re- placed. Although this makes the Counsellors very busy, they will still make time for students who need help. They are still there to help! The counsellors are located in Robertson Li- brary, at the Department of Student Development. This is a really hectic time of year for most students. Just keep in mind that the counsellors can and will help you get through it. If students have any con- cerns about where money is being spent (or not being spent) On campus, write them down on a piece of paper and oop them off at the barn. We'll make sure they’re voiced! In recent issues of The Cadre, there have been sev- eral articles and Letters to the Editor concerning the Sociol- ogy/Anthropology Department at UPEI. Students should be aware that Council is gather- ing information on the subject, and will most likely be taking action (which action and what stand will be taken has yet to be determined) on the situa- tion in the near future. If stu- dents do have complaints or concerns about this Depart- ment or any other Department on campus, you should feel free to voice them to the Chair of the Department, to the ap- propriate Dean and to the Stu- dent Union. Jamy-Ellen Proud VP Internal Things have been steady at the Barn lately. We've added a new fun-thing to our weekly line-up. Games Night is now part of the regular rota- tion. Nintendo 64, Sony Playstation, board games, Twister and lots more (Cheratien is willing to defend her Twister championship against anybody...). Wednes- day is still the coolest student trivia in town with your host Gigolo Joe Sullivan. Friday nights are always rocking down here, with the celtic en- tertainer Jerry McDaniel com- ing over from Cape Breton for this Friday. Be sure to drop down; admission is only three bucks. I guess the Scrooge Event is going to be on December 13th. For all of you that still have exams after this, I’m sorry, but it isthe only time that really works. Things will be slowing down in the next cou- ple of weeks, so make sure you do well on your exams so you can come and party guilt free with the rest of us. Good luck and we will see you at the Barn.
