Canada’s British Empire light heavyweight champion, was booked Wednesday to ‘meet Tony Anthony of New York‘in a 10- round television bout at Madison Square, Garden March 14. A victory over Anthony would put the husky fisherman-fighter from Bale Ste. Anne, N.B., in ‘line for a title shot against world light heavyweight champion A r c h i e Moore. Durelle and Anthony originally were scheduled to meet at the Garden, Jan. 31. but the New Yorker was forced to withdraw because of the flu. Durelle then stopped substitute Clarence Hin- nant of Washington, D.C., in the seventh round} It was sweet vengeance for the 28-year-old Durelle whose only loss in 12 fights in 1957 was to Hinnant. That was an eight-round technical knockout. If he beats Anthony and can get a promoter to put up $100,000 for Moore, the>Canadian, ranked sec- ond among the contenders, will get the crack at Moore. . “Archie would be delighted to fight Durelle in either Toronto or Montreal," said Charley John- ston, Moore's manager. “But someone has to get up $100,000 for Archie. I "Durelle has come along strong in the -last year and would be a good 0 pp 0 n e n t. Archie never ducks anyone, you know. We had to get up $100,000 to get a crack at Joey Maxim when he had the title, so that’s our price, too.” Johnston said he had been ap- proached by Toronto promoter Jack (Deacon) Allen for an in- door title fight against Durelle at Toronto. ' said Johnston. “We'd like to fight either in Toronto, where there are good sports fans, or Montreal, which is closer to Durelle‘s home. The French-Canadians would go for the fight”, Aces And Ramblers To -Start Series Here Friday Summerside Aces and Amherst Ramblers open a best five-out~of- nine game playoff series on Fri- day night at Summerside to de- termine which team will advance into Allan Cup playdowns, it was learned last night from Charles Hogan.
