It has come to a hcad in the bacon- lovmg State of Tennessee irlterc in response ‘to public clamor the State legislature is dealing with the question. ALEXANDER MATHESON On Sunday. March 28th. Ml‘. Al- exander Maiheson, a very highly esteemed resident of Mount Ver- non passed peacefully away at the age of 65 years. The deceased had not been in a very good condition of health for some months but it was hoped that alter having taken a more or les prolonged rest he would then be ready to again take up lites duties. During the greater part 1f the winter he was able to move about the house and suffered little or no pain. But while this was so. his strength did not return as it was expected that it would have done. In the late winter it be- came evident that instead of im- proving in health he was gradual- ly growing weaker. 1n spite of all that could be clone he continued to sink until on the above men- tined date his gentle spirit winged its homeward flight. Besides a sorrowing widow. Mr. Matheson leaves to mourn the loss of a kind and loving father. three sons, namely. Duncan and Wil- liam at homemnd Stewart, at pre- sent in Upper Belle River. Mr. Alexander Matheson was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Duncan Mflthes0n,b0th of whom emigrated from Scotland. In their family ‘were one son and two daughters. One daughter, Mrs. Jonathan D. Morrison survives the deceased brother Alexander: the othei-‘sis- fer. Mrs. Effie Bruce passed away over twenty years ago. Mr. Matheson was a man who was well known throughout the whole countryside and held in re- spect and esteem by all. He was a very successful farmer and for quite a number of years he was in charge of the Eatperi- mental Stiitions operated under the direction of the Prince Ed- ward Island Agricultural Depart- merit. He took a deep interest in all that pertained to the welfare of the school, the church. and the community. and he ever stood ready to help out in every good cause. For many years he had been a loyal supporter of the Presbyterian Church and at the time of the disruption in 1925 he remained true 1o the church of hi: fathers. He will be much missed in the various activities of the outside world. But still It. is in the home that his loss will be felt moat keenly. Here his loved ones will often long in vain foi- his genial presence and his words of wise counnel and good cheer. His passing was one of deep peace.
