If lines are second seSSion started as .( victorious in a pair, the hockey team splitting two and the field hockey team losing one. In field hockey our women managed to keep the first half against les dames from the U. de Moncton scoreless but fell behind I as the opposition managed three unanswered goals in the final half. This brings out season's recore to 0-9-1. Final game of the schedule will be at Mount A. next Saturday. In hookey (ice) our boys played their first game of the season, in Dalhousie’s Lobster pot Tournament, against last year's league winners the Moncton Blue Eagles(The place to start is at the top) and looked very good although losing 3-5. It was 2-3 in the first period, the middle session was scoreless and we trailed 3-4 with a short time to go but Moncton scored their insurance goal as we pressed for the equalizer to win 5-3. Our goals came from Greg Gravel, Jeff Lantz and Steve Fulton. Avalino Gomez, peppered heavily throughout, played heavily throughout, played well in the Panther net. Sunday's game was a different story as we stormed over old rival St. F.X. (X had lost their game to Dal 7-2). We led 4-0 after one, 7-0 after two and 9—1 at the end. ‘ Albert Roche and freshman Greg Gravel each got three goals while singles came from Garth Arsenault, Norman Beck Hicks. vDave Reid played well in our nets. think Coach Mulligan should be well pleased with the team performance in these games. The Moncton team, with 16 returnees from last year's winners has been touted as the strongest in the A.U.A.A. while the Panthers have many newcomers. Inasmuch as Panther play in the second game has been rated much superior to that in the one against Moncton we would think that les Aigles Bler have taken note that their path to a repetition to last year’s success will not be an easy one! We believe that the contests must pose ‘with Peter {we We» ~ count mixed and experiments tried (as is the purpose of these games) then we can expect comments such as "What's wrong with them?" if we lose, tie, or just eke out a win. We like an old Chinese story about a father and son who took a horse to market. They started out with the man leading and the song riding. They heard a comment "Look at that lazy boy who rides while his father walks." They traded places and heard "Look at that cruel father who rides and makes his ,son walk." They both got on the horse and the comment was made "Look at that pair who overload the poor horse." They both got off the horse and led it only to hear "Look at that foolish couple, they have a horse but neither is riding him." Take note Vincie , you can't please everybody. Don't try. In soccer we won one-in Wolfville, beating Acadia 2-O‘with Gary Polenz scoring early in a combination play Rawlinson and Scott Neil. Scott Neil later pounced on a rebound to make the final score. Jean Francois Painchaud chalked up the shutout, his third in a row and sixth of the season. On Sunday we squeezed out a 3—2 win over the U. de Moncton in what think was our poorest performance of the year. Backed by a strong wind we completely controlled play ' throughout the fifirst‘ half. With ordinary accuracy ‘we should have led, by our (with consultation with Bookstore Russ) by 5-0 early in the game but our boys seemed unable to locate anything but the end zone and it was not until the ninty minute of play that Doug Blane finally scored from close in. opportunities we did not score again until Steve Polenz was awarded a penalty shot in the last five minutes of the half and, as in his usual wont, he blasted the ball in to make it 2-0 at the break. That brings Steve’s penalty shot Despite many ' Moncton seemed to adapt very well totheir wind advantage and carried the play to the Panthers. After ten minutes they capitalized on a Panther debate as to who was to clear the ball and kicked one past Peter MacDonald (Playing goal for the first to ensure our section; time this season) to make it and the right to h( 2-1.
