To anyone to whom horse racing appeals the above program of speed will certainly give the greatest amount of enjoyment of any pro- gram that. has been provided for the Charlottetown Exhibition. We know from the past. performances of the horses entered and the way ,the classes have been arranged so as to prevent their being won by any one outstanding horse that. the racing will be the most: spectacular and the closest we have ever seen. Great. work is being done on the Charlottetown Driving Park track. The spirit of rivalry is abroad in the land and the assertion that this track is faster and that track is fast/er is not going to go unchal- lenged. The work which has been done the last: two weeks will bear fruit Exhibition Week and the av- erage of speed which will be shown provided the weather is favorable, will excel anything ever before seen on Prince Edward Island. That can be easily seen from the quality of the entries. Tile timers will be men of long experience whose watches will be synchronized and tested by an expert Jeweller and no one will get a fraction more or less than he is entitled to. In this connection it is absolutely necessary that tracks throughout this province ex- ercise the greatest care in appoint- ing competent timers. The public are interested in seeing fast time, but it must be correct time. spill while training Del Volo 'on Tuesday morning. Sliver Doctor had just. finished a mile and was taming into the stables when Mon- te came up the back stretch and collided with his sulky, being thrown to the track lighting on his head and shoulder. Del Volo ran around the track and our the up- per gate then stopped. Neither har- ness nor sulky we: injured. Mr. Gerow received painiul bruises on his head and shoulder, " but was kindly cared for by other horsemen who deeply regretted his injury. As this is being written on Fri- day evening sil the race stalls at. the Charlottetown Driving Park track are filled up and any further arrivals will have to be accommo- dated ln livery stables in Charlotte- town. There are more horses here than last; year, when we thought we had a big entry list; and built a lot more stalls. As far as can be ascertained the Free For A11 will have seven starters, the 2.13 Trot and Pace eight starters, the 2.16 Trot and Pace ten starters, the 2.19 Trot and Pace ten starters, the 2.22 Trot and Pace ten starters, the 2.25 Trot and Pace eleven starters, the 2.15 Trot eight starters. the 2.17 Trot eight starters, the 2.27 Marl- time Bred eleven starters and the 2.25 Pace eleven starters. From one end of the long string of racing stables at the Exhibition track to the other, s. distance of 300 yard-s, it is all activity those morn- ings. Every stall is filled with a race horse equipment. and the at- tendants and trainers are busy as bees from six a. m. until noon. It is in the mornings that. the horses get their jogging and speed work. The usual routine with race horses is to give two workouts a. week, say on Tuesday and Friday or Monday and Thursday. One workout day will consist of a couple of s!ow miles, a medium mile and then two miles within a few seconds of the horses capacity. Tile other work- out. day is known as the slow work- out day and no fast miles are giv- en. The inter-mediate days the horse is walked or mildly jogged Fredericton. N.B., are holding horse races in connection with their exhibition. Sept. 13th to 16th. Classes are: Free For Ail, 2.13, 2.16. 2.18, 2.21 trot and pace, 2.25 pucc, 2.14, 2.18, 2.25 trot. Ed Acorn is nothing "if not an enthusiast and he takesas much in- terest in the racing game as if he owned a string of race horses. He is also kindness itself to visiting horsemen and is a valuable asset. to Charlottetown in that: he sends them away from here saying thl kindest; things about us. That; and the nice way other people treat. vis- itors accounts a lot. for the popu- larity which our Exhibition has with the horsemen. Nowhere else in the _Maritimcs can they stage a . show like we will have on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. It will eclipse in spectacular speed and in real do or die finishes anything we have ever sccn here. No one should fail to see Tues- day‘s races.
