Con- gratu.ations, ——__— Tax Goup Trats —The afternoon train which leaves the Windsor station daily has now been called the ‘gold train,’ by reason of the number of men who travel by it on the way to the ‘Klondike.’ A woman as- ked Mr. Miller, tne station agent, to-day, what time the ‘gold train’ left ia the afternoon. The name is likely to stick, aw every day witnesses an increase in thia travel by this particular train. It would not be correct to sav thal all who use the train are Klondikers, for immigrants of various nationalities are observed boarding it, although the season has not properly opened yet; but there can be no doubt that the great bulk of the passengers sre gold seekers. This is determined pot merely | by their appearance, but their tickets and their own statements, At the Windsor s'ation slone over » thousand men bound for the Kiordike bave commenced their journey over the C. The signing of the contract by Governor Murray did not necessarily mean his signing of the bill, though an endeavor has been made by thoeve tavoring the bill to create such an | expression with a view of shutting of! public discussion. A large meeting is arranged for this evening kere, at which strong reso.utions will be passed against accepting Mr. Keid’s terms, This will strengthen the baads of the Governor, who is known to consider the bill an unfair one. “Bishop Howley is strongly opposed to the deal, and has sent a letter to the Gov- ernment saying that be will from the pulpit advise bis flock to withdraw their money from the Savings Bank if the deal is cop- summuted. The principal clergymen are also opposed and will appear on the plat- form to denounce the deal. Stong protests have gone to the Imperial! Government, asking their interference to save the couutry from the effects of the deal. Meanwhile the Imperial aseent has been etayed by the protest of the Ang’o Telegraph esbareholders in London, who have rights here which the bill ignores. Those oppored to the dea! are jabiliant and hope that the deal ix indefinitely off. ln conversation with Bishop Howley he told me that he believes that the right to run telegraph lines through this country which will become ours after the expiry of the Anglo srrangement in a few years, will be worth alone more than all than the Reids are giving for the entire country. Mr. Morrie, leader of the Liberal belters, it 1a said, will be offered the Attorney Generalship, Sir James Winter taking tie | Bench. Many of Mr. Morri+’ friends have deseried him and he will have a narrow equeak for return if be accepte. Outport constituencies are wiriag protests to the | city papers every day.
