HORSESHOEING. H4 VING secured the services of MR. WIL- 4IAM TUCKER, a native of this Island, who has had nine years’ experience as a Horse- shoer in the United States, I am prepared to supply a long-felt want in this line. Mr. Tucker has reduced horseshoeing to a science, and is prepared to perform al! classes of work in a common-sense and scientific manner. I need not inform the intelligent horseowner that the gait of the horse and condition of the feet must be understood to weight a horse properly and to successfully cperate thereon. Numerous patrons already admit the merits of the work pe a. and recommend his system of shoeing. Customers can always depend on attention and entire satisfaction. W. J. As to the improved market value of Cana dian securities known in great Britain the re | is much said. Dominion 3} per bee ni} to be cents. are as much as 6 higher, having risen from 925 to 983 Provincial governinent bonds have as a rule improved, but the older 6 per cents. are naturally inclined to lose some of their considerable premiums, as the redemption dates come to be thought more of. Of municipal hpnds, those of Quebec and Toronto show a rise of about 3 percent., but Toronto credit is a long way ahead of that of any other Canadian city, But the most considerable advance is in railway securities. All those which have any pretensions to soundness have risen considerabiy. Canadian Pacific shares were 60 a year ago, and they have recently been above 75, but are now just under 70. The company’s bonds, in spite of the large ad- dition to the amount on the market, have risen from 1024 to 107, and they changed hands at 108 a week or two ago. The Grand Trunk series have advanced still larger extent. The guaranteed stock, which was 55, is now 74; the first preference has advanced from 55} to 76}, and the second preference from 384 to 58. The bonds of the various lines leased to both these great companies also show great progress in some cases. New Brunswick railway bonds have risen from 82 to 98, Northern of Canada third preference bonds from 92 to 95 ; Windsor and Annapolis debenture stock from 52 to 70. St. John snd Maine shares have been so high as 45, but they are now not much over 30. In the sections there has also been improvement. Bank of British Columbia shares, which were 60, are now 68; and bank of Montreal to a and other some shares, which, with $200 paid, closed last year at $400, are now $481. Loan shares are better than they were a year ago, trust and loan shares, however, being still at a slight discount. Land shares rule, improved; but there has recently ‘been a reaction from the unduly high price of Hudson’s Bay shares of a month or two ago. There is practical/y nothing to say of the other sections of our Canadian invest have, as a ments. It is worth nothing, however, that stock exchange securities in Canada have also greatly advariced during the year. Amongst banks’our readers are most familiar one WP tics BEER & GOFF'S.
