c@ a: tag FEBRUARY MEETINQ. At the February 3rd meeting the society's annual meeting was held. After routine business was dealt with, the new executive was installed. Congratulations to Rosemary Curley the new president, and to incoming director Debbie Peters. Thanks to outgoing president Winston Johnston for his hard work on the society's behalf over the past number of years. Thanks too, to Eleanor Lowe and Bruce MacLaren who are also retiring from the executive committee. The February meeting program featured Winston Johnston describing how he combines his two favourite hobbies of bird watching and stamp collecting. Aided by slides of postage stamps from Canada and around the world, Winston impressed us all with the beauty and variety of natural history themes available on stamps. MARCH MEETINQ. The March meeting will be held on Tuesday the third at 8:00 p.m. in the Health Building. Dr. John Maloney will be speaking about Prehistoric P.E.I. and will be telling about some of the archeological research and discoveries in the province. As usual lunch will be provided. (Remember your mug!) NATURE SLIDE CONTEST. Only one month left! Deadline for receipt of entries is April 7. Members may submit up to ten slides on any natural history theme, as long as these slides have not been submitted to a previous society contest. Entries should be sent to Margaret Mallett (53 Fitzroy St., Charlottetown) or brought to the April meeting.Slides should be marked with the owner's name. PROVINCIAL PARKS VISIT SCHOOLS. The Parks Section of the Department of Highways and Public Works has a team of naturalists which is now promoting environmental education within the school system. Programs available include slides and stuffed specimens of native birds and animals. Topics relating to winter ecology which are now being offered include: winter ecology, adaptations of animals to winter, animal populations, hunting and trapping. Programs relating to spring are being planned as well. Schools wishing to have a visit from the naturalists should contact Bruce Smith or Julie Steeves at 892-7431. WILSON ORNITHOLOGICAL SOCIETY TO MEET. The sixty-second annual meeting of the Wilson Ornithological Society will be held at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick June 4-7, 1981. The Wilson Ornithological Society is one of the better known associations of professional ornithologists in North America. It is also the publisher of the Wilson Bulletin, a highly respected scientific journal of bird research. As part of the program of the Sackville meeting, delegates will make a one-day field trip to P.E.I. to visit Cape Tryon and the National Park. CORRECTION. The Lesser Scaup reported on the P.E.I. National Park Christmas Bird Count should be recorded as Scaup sp., probably Greater Scaup.
