Lesson—Mark 16-6, “He is Risen.” Easter service to-morrow morning and even- ing in the Upper Prince Street Methodist Church, Preaching by Rev. W. W. Brewer, Early morning prayer meeting at 7.3). ected Mr. Pope's Leeture Before the yY. M. ¢ A. A gentleman who was present reports that Mr. Percy Pope’s paper on Agnosti- cism and Religion, read before ths Asso- ciation on Thursday evening last, was a very carefully and ably prepared compen- dium of a subject which is now exercising the minds of many of the best scholars of the age. Mr. Pope, within the short space of time at his disposal, (about an hour) suc- ceeded in showing and defining, and to a certain extent in vindicating what is under- stood by this agnostic doctrine and its re- Jation to the Christian religion, apart from the belief in inspiration as given in the Sacred Scriptures. And as we understocd the argument, it consists largely in the belief in the Fatherhood of God, and Brotherhood of Christ. or in other words the Religion of Humanity, without the atonement, in fact, very much the doctrine set forth inthe work known as ** Robert Elsmere.” Judge Heusley, who occupied the chair, commented on the Lecture, and so did the President. A cordial vote of thanks was voted to Mr. Pope for his services. Disgraceful! Edward Whit- man, While he was pastor of that church, ind which reports did not reach the church until after that gentleman’s departure for Joliet, Jil. The committee had three ses- sions—two onthe day after appointment, land one on the Saturday f jiowing, At these sessions written as well as verbal The Committe fully weighed this evidence, and submitted their report to the congrevation last night. care- | The report showed that the committee had found Rev. Mr. Whitman the following counts :— 1. Associating with a under an assumed name 2. Misappropiation of Church Fuads. 3. Untruthfu' ness. With reference to the first charge, it was Mr. Whitman had visited a youlg woman named Mary McWilliams, at her residence, Belmont, some miles west of Summerside, going there under the name guilty on young woman shown that of George EK. Churchill. Two visits were nade by him to this house in the summer of 1888. On the second visit, it is alleged, the gul’s father followed Whitman into Summerside and began action against him for visiting his house under an assumed The matter, however, was settled quietly on Mr. Whitman’s paying over sum of money to the plaintitf. The committee refused to aceept this alleged promissory note, and sustained the charge of misappropriat lon. @The third count was sustained by wr.tten aid verbal statements, which wer conclusive to the minds of the Committee. The meeting last evening, at which th: Committee's report was presented fer ap proval by the congregation, was largely at- tended; in fact the building was filled. When the report was submitted, only a few of the congregation opposed its adoption. On motion, the letter of dis missal, for which Mr. Whitman asked, was refused, and he was expelled from mem- bership in the church. This letter of dis- missal, it may be explained, if granted , would show that Mr. Whitman was in good standing in the church, and it was for the purpose of obtaining this letter that he made the journey to the Island.
