The firm of Gunn, Langlois & Co., Ltd., carried od no less than 10 first priz- es, 4 seconds, 2 thirds and 3 spec- ials, also the silver cup for the best bird in the show. This is the second cup won by them this winter, and as they also swept the boards at the rlttawn Winter Fair, it only goes to show what can be done when people are really in earnest and enthusiastic about what they undertake. With this end in view the manage- ment of the Sherbrooke Poultry Show invited the above nam- ed iirin to send John I. Brown, Man- ager of their special poultry depart- ment, to give an address along the lines of commercial poultry, this tak- ing place in the lecture room at eight o’clock, on the last evening of the show. Over two hundred interes- ted bearers were present, and one and all were of the opinion that good would result from the helpful infor- mation given in reference to the mar- keting of poultry and poultry pro-, ducts. . The marked interest which is so much in evidence in connection with this trade in the province of Quebec will give an impetus to the poultry in-iustry throughout the province and in the course of the next [ew _years .wc shall no doubt see an ln- rrense in the quantity and quality of poultry and eggs pro- duced that will result in increased profits to the individuals as well as to the country. After the lecture was over, a ban- quet was tendered to the local and visiting poultrynien at the Shei- hrooke Hotel, and afterthc inner man nad been refreshed the President proposed the health of the King, which was heartily responded to by the singing of “God Save the King." The president then proposed the health of the expert judge, Mr. For- tier, and in response Mr. _Fortier took up at some length, the succes- ful mating and breeding of fancy .-stock and proper methods for fitting them for the show. " The President then proposed a toni'-it to thc health of the visitors, namely, Messrs. Brown and Johnston Ltd. In response to this toast. Mr. John-ston dwelt upon the exceptional opportunity that was presenting it- self to the producers of Quebec to y _ fitalile branch as a side fine to our farniing. In conclusion, Mr Johnston stated that it gave him n great deal of pleasure t0`be present and see that the poultrymen of Quebec were evi- dently in earnest and ready to under- take and forward this movement to n successful issue, and he assured them that the same assistance wlilclii his firm had been cndeavoring to give the poultry interests this season would not be curtailed this coming year. Mr Drown spoke briefly on the strains of the different breeds and the mixing of foreign blood, which was one of the eails of the poultry trade today, emplinzing the fact that there was a. great deal more- in strains than breeds, although the breed was a very important factor to ilie success of the poultry' indus- try on_ thc farm, and closed by rec- ommending the Barred Plymouth Rock as an all around larmer‘s bird. "The Press" was next proposed and responded to by two of the local edi- tors, both of them voicing the same sentiment in connection with the de- velopment of the trade, and offering The Nova Scotia “Lumber King" Many valuable gems are lost by neglecting to have worn out ring claws renewed soon enough.
