Dr. Stevenson Present and Delivers an Excellent _ Address. 1_-in n The Epworth League convention of the Summeiside district met in Epworth Hall, Suinniersid on Thursday at 2.30 p. m. In the absence _ f the President (Bro. T. Hodgson), the Rev. N. McLaughlin was elected president pro tem. Bro. F. C. Stephenson, M. D. of Toronto was present. also the pastors of all the cir- cuits except, Bideford and Hunter River. The session opened with devotional exer- cises consisting of Scripture reading, sing- ing and prayer by Dr. Stephenson and Rev. G. F. Dawson. The president then briefly stated the object of the meeting, and warmly welcomed Dr. Stephenson. @_ | i 1 ll Emo 5 -A ‘--_.1 EPWORTH HABL. SUMMERSIDE. ( 1 At this point, there was elected a busi- ness committee of live, consisting of Miss Strong, Miss Clark, Mr. Wightman, Mr. Dawson and Mrs. Wright. While this committee was doing its work Dr. Stephenson gavea very interesting and helpful talk on the Missionary organiza- tion of Methodist Church, from the Gen- eral Superint endent down to the Quarterly Boards, and the individual members of the Church, using a chart to ‘illustrate hispoint of discussion. After his soul- stirring remarks, Bro. Wightman led in prayer which was followed by singing, “All for Jesus". This was a time of special blessing and power. The business committee than gave its report which was as follows: Honorary President, Rev. G. F. Dawson; Presi- dent, Rev. N. McLaughlin; lst Vice Presiden' ,Thomas Moyse,Central Be ieque; hd Vice President, Miss Jessie Strong; 3rd Vice. President, Rev. Wightman; 4th Vice President, Miss Grace Brien, Victoria; 5th Vice President, Miss Emma Wilkins-J 1, Aibertou; Representative of District on Conference Executive, Rev. Wm. Thomson; Secretary, Rev. W. J. Howard; Treasurer, Major Lowther, Searltown. Nominations for Executive: Bradford Gough, Snmmerside; Thomas Hodgson. Bedeque; Rev. John Dystant, Rev. A. E. Chapman and Wm. Callbeck, Central Bedeque. Reports of Leagues were then given from Tryon, Bedeque, Albertln and Sum- merside, Mrs. E.Wi°ight then read a thoughtfully prepared paper on the Epworth League asa missionary educator. A discussion on this paper followed, when some very helpful thoughts were expressed. Here Rev. G. F. Christ’s last _ words, His words of most importance to Hisfollowers were: “Go ye into all the world,” etc. Last words are meant to be impressive. The evenirg session was held in the Methodist Church and opened at 8 o’clock with devotional exercises consisting of singing by choir, seripturereading by pre- sident and prayer by Rev. W. J. Howard. Mrs. Bradford Gough then read an ex- cellent paper on the privileges and duties of Epworth League workers in which she emphasized the importance of an every . day, all round, Christian life. Rear Commodore, L B Grady, secretary, Board of Trade was held Friday night _ the proposed steamship company. The The President, Hon. R. C. McLeod, occu- pied the chair, and in his opening remarks explained that the object of this meeting was the adoption of a prospectus for the guidance of shareholders, and _to discuss ways and means for the organization of a Steamship company. Mr. Richard Hunt on beualf of the committee, submitted a draught prospectus, which was adopted by the Board. After afull discussion it was resolved. that the capital stock of the company be placed at $59,000, to be divld ed into 1,00) shares of $50, each. A gen- eral _liscussion followed, iii which the ad- vantages expected from the proposed company were fully discussed by Messrs. Wm. Stewart, Neil McQuarrie, J. A. Brace, Richard Hunt, and others, all of whom expressed the opinion that a good paying business could be carried on by the company on the lines suggested and that the project would be of great benefit to Sum aierside and Prince County. A committee consisting of Messrs R. T. Holman, Neil McQuarrie, R. Hunt, Wm. Stewart, D. K. Currie and Hon. R. C. Mc- Leod, was appointed to solicit stock for the company. The intention in reference to stock was that about half should be subscribed in Summerside and Prince County and the balance in New Bruns- wick and Nova Scotia. The lists were handed round and about $5,033 stock was subscribed Although not definitely settled it was suggested that about half the capi- tal stock $25,633 would be sullicient to en- able the company to secure a suitable boat. The lists are being presented to the different business men throughout the town.
