WAR MEMORIAL AT LONG RIVER The German gun which stands on the school grounds M: Long River has been painted recently and surrounded by a beautiful fence thus sreatly "adding to the beauty and attractiveness of an already well kept school ground. This gun should be a constant reminder of the bravery and skill of those who fought for liberty and democracy in the great war. No such war trophy can beex- hibited on foreign territory as the Canadian forces through the whole long conflict never lost a gun to the enemy which they did not recapture. At the same time the Jagged holes torn through the iron sides of the gun and the partly severed spoke of one wheel bear grim testimony to the horrors of war. It is quite probable that. in the capture of this sun some o! our Canadian boys made the sup- reme sacrifice or received wounds from. which they suffer till this day. It is i0 be hoped then that this gun will keep trash in the minds of the people the names of those who fought so bravely for their country in her hour of trouble and at the same time remind them of ‘the horror, miseryi and futility o! war. To those war!
