Orrawa, Aug. 31. it is understood that two tenders have been received for the proposed Transatlan- tie Steamship Service. These will be con- sidered on the Premier's return to the capital. The printing of the revised list of voters has just been completed . To-morrow will be the first celebration of Labor Day, and as it has been proclaimed a civic holiday it will doubtless be generally observed. The celebration will consist of a grand parade in the morning, platform meeting at noon, and field sports in the afternoon. The Dominion ritle matches commence at noon to-morrow. There are already four hundred entries, and post entries are ex- pected to swell the list considerably. The range has been somewhat improved, and the experiment of firing in threes instead of twos is expected to shorten materially the time required to complete the matches. All the provinces are represented, ~~ An Eventful Voyage. Rimouski, Aug. 31. The mail steamer Vancouver arrived at 5 a.m. after an eventful yoyage. Soon after leaving Moville she met a gale, and fortwo nights and aday the decks were swept by heavy seas. One passenger was washed by a wave against the vessel and had his leg broken, others suffered lesser injuries. On Friday morning while ‘pro- ceeding slowly an enormous iceberg loomed up directly ahead, and before the steamer could be checked she crushed into it. The iron plates at the bow were bent out. There was considerable alarm. Capt. Leu- dall recorded in the log, ** one of the most trying voyages | have had for many a year.” There were three hundred intermediate and steerage passengers and two hundred saloon. A Strange Case. Moncron, Aug. 31. Etta Simpson, aged 17, living on Bonac- cord Street in this town, went to sleep on ! Sunday last and has not yet awakened, nor ! has she taken any nourishment. Dr. Chandler, who is attending her, says it is a case of hysteria coma. It is feared that it she does not soon awaken from her sleep death will ensue. About two years ago she slept for five days, but was awakened while being bled by her medical attendant. Another Missionary for India. Moncton, Aug. 31. They have always been very suc- cessful in the past, and itis to be hoped their many friends will not fail to patronize them to-night. McLeod, master, with a cargo of 9,600 pieces of deals, containing 255,000 superficial feet, shipped by Peake Bros. & Co., and 104 cases of lobsters, shipped by Walter Matheson, sailed for Liverpool, G. B., on the 30th ult. This vessel will sail again from Liverpool for Charlottetown about the 25th of September, as advertised. cemeine en pee Recatra.—There will be a grand regatta under the auspices of the 8. E. B. C., on one of the days of our exhibition. Oars- men from the different provinces are ex- pected to take part therein.
