Day'-to-day gains were small but they were enough to boost the total market value of all shares listed on the ex- change by around $1.000.000.0f.\0. News, good or bud, seemed to have little effect on prices. A large and successful new fin- ancing deal involving common stock was shrugged off with im- pressivc calm. Repeated reports of buyers’ markets Iir various fields. declining wholesale prices for some goods, and a sputtering of indus- trial iayoffs were politely dis- regarded. Equally notable was the Ivpe of buying andwirc stocks affected. High-grade preferred issues cum‘,- in for considerable attention as well as a number of top-level com- mon shares.
