There is no sense in trying to dodge any sort of trouble around a tree. The only way is to come squarely out and face the dif- ficulty and fight it. If you are sick or half sick, the best course is not to neg- lect or ignore it, or pretend that it find the proper rem- edy and use it. A bilious, dyspep- tic condition of the makes life miserable, but to something worse, unless system not on! it is sure to lea romptly taken in hand and corrected. It is foolish to attempt to dodge such troubles by any mere temporary expedient. The only sensible way is to get rid of them for good and all by a thoroughly rational, scien- tific medicine like Dr. Pierce's Golden Med- ical Discovery. It cures all disordered, debilitated condi- tions by its direct action upon the liver.and digestive organs; it gives them power to make fresh, healthy blood free from bilious impurities; it drives all disease-germs out of the circulation; it creates solid, muscular flesh and constitutional power. Lung and throat affections, which are often simply the result of impaired nutri- tion, are reached and cured by this wonder- ful ‘‘Discovery’’ in cases where cod liver oil emulsions are useless, because the “‘ Dis- covery” is readily assimilated by delicate stomachs. It is far superior to malt ex- tracts, because its beneficial effects are permanent. “Dr. Pierce, I am one of your most grateful tients,’’ writes Mrs. Annie M. Norman, of Poulnwak, Wayne Co., Pa. “I have taken ‘Golden Medical Discovery,’ also ‘ Favorite Pre- scription’ and ‘ Pellets’ with wonderful results. I am, as many of my friends tell me, like the dead brought to life. The doctors said I had consumption and death was only a matter of time. That was six years ago. I concluded to your medicine. I contnhous until I had taken ans bottles of ‘ Discovery’ and several bottles of ‘Pellets.’ I got well and have done a great deal cf hard work since.’ When the liver and bowels don’t work, the body and brain won’t. Dr. Pierce's Pleasant Pellets are a sute, safe, speedy and permanent cure for constipation, and a torpid liver. One ‘‘ Pellet’’ is a gentle laxative and two a mild cathartic. IsIand correspondent” address to Charlottetown. oct 14 d&w ' in the | and then Glimpses of the Russian Censorship. Some interesting glimpses of the working of the Russian censorship, which was maintained even against French journalists during President Faure’s visit, are given in a letter from the special correspondent of the London News in St. Petersburg: Calling at a news agency after the review I learne’: that the censor had gone to dine in “he country and would not be back before 8 o’clock, up to which hour no telegrams could be | passed. This was tantamount to cutting off foreign correspondents from tele- graphic communication with the rest of the world for the night. The outlook seemed hopeless wheu a high Russian official, who has the privilege of pass- ing telegrams, kindly consented to lock over mine. It wasa great favor. The improvised censor objected, however, to a story about M. Faure’s overcoat, and accordingly I had to suppress it. He know,’ he metaphorically but I should get passing your telegram Was very sympathetic. ‘I said, ‘you must be gnashing your teeth, into trouble for , if there were anything objectionable in | it.’ One ' doecn’t exist, but to | _— wired iited half of my French colleagues that the Grand Duke Alexis w: an hour at the landing stage. He was pulled up by the censor with the re- mark, ‘A Russian grand duke waits for nobody.’ A friend of mine was about to write that the czarina had grown slightly stouter since she was in Paris, but refraimed. I stated the fact, and it was allowed to pass. ’’ For Stamp Collectors. Afghanistan stamps are ‘‘canceled’’ by having a piece torn out of each stamp. Incidentally a piece of the en- velope or letter is torn out at the same time. From a collector’s point of view this isa barbarous proceeding, and we hope that the new idea of canceling stamps by branding them with a red- hot platinium wire will not be adopted. Yet this has been suggested in some of the German papers. If it is ever adopt- ed, we shall have to collect unused stamps only. A German philatelist classifies col- lectors asfollows: 1. Beginners. 2. Av- erage collectors. 8. Serious collectors (whose albums represent a value of $10,000). 4. Important collectors (col- lections worth $25,000). 5. Prominent collectors ($50,000). 6. Great collectors (who have spent over $100,000 on their collections). The report that the government pur- posed to change the color of the 2 cent stamp from red to green as @ measure of economy brought out a fiood of pro- tests. Any intention to use green in- stead of red could be carried out fora few munths only, as all the governments represented at the postal congress will aim to bring about uniformity in coior in stamps of different countries of prac- tically the same denomination. Red is the color adopted for stamps of 2 cents (10 centimes, etc.).—Harper’s Round Table. A Valuable Indorsement. ‘*Isn’t the butter rather strong today, Mrs. Small?’’ asked the star boarder. ‘It may be, Mr. Hunker,’’ was the landlady’s suave reply, ‘‘but if it is that fact only establishes its genuine- ness, Imitation butter never gets strong.”"—Town Topics. ae SE NigaT SCHOOL The Evening Session —OF THE— Charlottetown Business College and Writing Academy OPENS ON OCTORER ISTH INST.
