Murphy was born in Kinkora in 1859. where he attended school in his-i youth, after- wards graduating from the Normal School in Charlottetown. He spent a few years teaching in thc tliffercnt schools of the Island, when he decid- ed to go West and try his luck. About thirty years ago he became connect- ed with the Chicago and Northwest- ern Railway Co in Asliland', and hy perseverance anti business tact he aoon won his way do be one of their most. valued officials, and it highly rc spected citizen of the town. About seven years ago he visited his friends. here, who were all glad to welcome- him as a successful lslonder. He leaves a' widow anil two -sons. who- have the sympathy of many old friends and acouiiintances here. Mr. P. P. Murphy, postiiiastel, Emerald Jct., and Mr. A. S. Ho was formerly a member ot' the Police Force at Fort William, Ontario and later lic- was on the Provincial Police I-‘orceat Grahn-m, Ontario. at the time oi en- listing. He enlisted about a year 1150 in Fort William in the_94th Battalion and was afterwards transferred to the 46th Battalion mortally wounded in the neck and shoulders on May Gill. 1917- he was admitted to the above hoslllilll where he shortly afterwards passed a- way. Letters testifying ns to his noble and most heroic death have been re- ceived by his mother from the chap- lains of the hc-spital and of his battal- ion.
