4 a , definitely pay to The Spudmonsters Stop The Madness (Massacre Records) Just by the titles of the songs on this tape, ] could tell that I was in for some interesting listening. For starters, one titfe, “*T0 Lbs. of S---- ina LB. Bag,”” caught my attention ri away. Almost every song on this tape is really loud and definitely something thrash their head around to. One song, ‘‘Garbage Day,” had me laughing fromrStart to end. If you are into heavy metal, will most likely like this tape. If you li you to stay far away from this tape. For those of you who like to get‘your money’s worth when you buy a tape, this (4) Mary MacDonald ar ape re’s nothing spectacular about it. The only thing that makes it the slightest bit interest- ing/is the Spanish influence, and even that’s not 1 Daddys of Eden Tomorrow sch | you’r¢ looking for background music, don’t buy (Columbia) Quiet and cryptic, Daddys off Eden create som great background music on is album. Lai back and easy flowing, Tomotrow Yesterday h nothing particularly exciting |to say, and is rela- tively generic as far as style Boes. Good mood music for thinking or studying, but otherwi middle of the road. Se G) | a Mike Beagan : ‘| \ Trigger Ha py Killatron 2000 : lead singer actually sings and sings well. The song, ‘‘Arena Rock,”’ sets you up for the re f the tape. It is a great song and the music is exceptional. This Canadian group is sure to go places. with their music. I would see this group. I also must comment on the liner Nt is very creative and interesting. 1 spent a while just staring at it, trying to figure out what each thing was. Trigger Happy deserves a lot of credit for recording such a great cassette. (4.5) Mary MacDonald Carry On Up The Charts The Best Of The Beautiful South The album is worth a listen if only for one song -- *‘Song For Whoever. has sat quietly in the background for several years -- producing some somehow missed the mainstream in North America. The Beautiful South’s lyrics are funny, yet still get their point across, with a truly original sound. If you are looking for an interesting addition to your music collection which will make i hum along, try the Best of The Beautiful South. (3.5) A. Chisholm The Alkaholiks nin 4 é sites ~ af iis aa2% tat ’*Coast II Coast’’ This rap tape is definitely not the best rap have listened to. Although some are good, it seems to go downhill all the time. The language on this tape would be offensive tolsome people, as every four-letter word imaginable is used on this tape at least ten times. It wouldn’t be sooo bad, except that you can tell they are only saying these words to sound ‘‘bad’’. There jn’t one good song on this tape. They have good music, but lousy words. Some may like this tape, but I find it to be a bit too much. I also encourage those who own this tape to keep it out of the reach of children. (1.5) Mary MacDonald Bindu Way to Heaven (BMG) This is music that is very easy to dance to. It has a get-up-and-go beat that seems to fill the room with energy. The words are great -- when you can unde: them. Most of the words are in English, but the choruses seem to slip into some foreign language. Some of the songs seem too much like chants. This noise can get on one’s nerves pretty quickly. The song, ‘‘I Feel No Pain’’, ismuch too weird. She chantsa lot and repeats every thifd line. For the type of music she is singing, Iam sure she is doing a good job. If you like c g, you'll love this tape. Since I don’t, I am going to have to give this tape a low rating. (2.5) Mary MacDonald Gil Scott-Heron Spirits (Cargo Records) Although it is hard to find aname to label this music, Gil Scott-Heron refersto his music as ‘Black American Music’’. The music could fall under reggae, blues, African vibrations, jazz, salsa, chants or poetry. The advice hidden within his songs is very educational. It seems to be valid for all people in that we must learn to live together oniously. ‘‘Message to the Messengers’’ is - a refreshing poetic piece with music playing in the background. The words are literally aimed at young African Americans, but it could apply to the situations of all races. The rest of the songs on the tape are good, except that a few lyrics did not seem to fit the music. I also found that the majority of the songs were either too long or too short. Very few of them seemed to stop at the perfect spot. (4) Mary MacDonald March 21, 1995
