Car crry, purchased that original paint- ing “The Earl Gray", painted by the late “Peach" Moore from Lawrence Gaudet of this city. This painting was on exilibition, and admired by many citizens some years ago. On first seeing this remarkable painting Mr. Stevens took a fancy to it. and determined to purchase it. ' At a directors meeting of tile Pro- vincial Dairy Association yaierday afternoon, Mr. w. L. Brenton, Brook- ficld, N, S.. Dominion Inspector of Dairy Products for the Maritime Prov incca was appointed Dairy Superin- tendent -for Prince Edward Island in place of the late Mr. J. A. MacDon- ald. Brenton, is at present an a visit to the Island in connection ‘with his Dominion duties, and has accepted the offer made by the Pro- vincial Dairy Association. He will be- gin his new duties on June 1st. The Provincial Government, which pays a part of the Dairy Superintendent's salary. has signified its approval of the appointment. Mr. Brenton is a ilative of Brook- field. and has had a. wide experience in the dairy industry in the Marit- ime fiovinoes. He is a graduate of the T‘ru.ro Agricultural College, and previous in his student career there. attended the Dairy School at Sussex. New Brunswick. He was manager of the Brookfleid Creamery, now one of tile largest ice cream manufacturing plants in Eastern Canada, for six years. an." u“. -SAD BEREAVEMENT-The com- munity at Carleton were deeply Srlcved at the sudden death on Sun- day iast of Ml‘. Ernest Harper at the home obhls fathcr-in-laiv, Mr. Wil- iiam S. Muttart, after a brief illness. The late Mr. Harper was 43 years of age and was a native of Jacksonville N. B. About nine years ago he mar- ried Miss Blanche Muttart and came to live with her parents, assisting Mr. Muttart on his extensive farm. He soon made many friends and his death at such ail early age has been learned with regret by a large circle of acquaintances. There are left to mourn their sad loss, besides his sor- rowing widow, one little son Allison, his parents, who atteildsd the fun- eral. and other relatives, to all of whom the deep sympathy of all is extended. The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon, from the resi- dence of Mr. Milttart to the United Church at Cape Traverse, Rev. A. J. Reynolds of Bedequc officiating. As- sisting him were Rev. George Somers, of ‘ll-yon and Rev. George Ayers of Kensington. The funeral was very largely attended by friends from dif- ferent parts of the Province, friends from Summerslde being among the llumber. The pail bearers were Messrs. Frank.
