mass' of promising generalities which
has characterized the Me insurance
inquiry started in 'N'ew _York on Eri-
day last, there cropped up today,
testimony that three foreigri're-in-
surance companies' psidj handsomely
to have the so-called Grady re-insur.
ance bill passed by the legislature at
Albany\in 1904. The bill was passed
and is istill law, notwithstanding
that it was opposed by domestic
companies who subscribed _$10,000 for
the purpose and placed it in the
hands of the late Gleorge P. Sheldon,
one time president of the Phoenix In-
surance 'Company of Brooklyn.
These incidents were described on
the stand by E. H. A. Correa, vice-
president of the Home Fire Insur-
ance Company, in whose opinion the
bill in question was "bought
