McCllntic, of the Public Health and Marine Hospital Service, who stricken with Rocky Mountain spotted fever fighting the disease in Montana, died to-day at the Georgetown Uni? varsity Hospital. He arrived here this n»o"ning after his hurried journey at-rms the con- tinent accompained by br. l~1arl Kell- ogg, of Stevensville, Mont, and a- nurse. It. was evident the odds were against him and that the disease he had so edectively fought to stamp out would claim him as a victim. Dr. McClintic's wife, who was Miss Teresa Drexel, of Washington, met ber stricken husband and did not leave his bedside until the end. Pass- ed Assistant Surgeon W. C. Bunker, of the Public Health and Marine Hos- pital Service, who formerly was as- sociated with Dr. McClintic in the spotted fever research work, offered to relieve Dr. Kellogg, but although Dr. Kellove l\~|l hor' l‘i.tl»- sleep since Thursday he declined to leave thc case even for an hour. Everything possible was done for Dr. McClintic, but so little ls known of the- cause or the cure of this strange maiady that the physicians were discouraged from the hour ol his arrival. Lieutenant W. S. McClintic, who is attached to the Louisiana, was, hurriedly summoned to his bro- ¢ll€|"B~‘9l0°. but arrived too late to ses him alive. U.._.zL___l'51.. .. ._ ____. gg-I _ ...,, ; As told in a Washington despatch to the lierals today. Dr. McClintic's was the only case of spotted .fever developed in the Bitter }-loot Valley of Montana this year, so thoroughly had been his work of eradicating the tick which transmits the disease. Dr. McC1intic was preparing, when stricken to return to Washington for labrutory work, supplementing his investigation in the field. Although bv his death the foremost authority on this strange disease has been lost, an- other ollicer of the Public Health ser- vice will step into his place, and the search for the cause and cure of the malndy will be continued. “He died like a hero," was the comment of Dr. Rupert Blue, Sur- geon General of the public Health and Marine Hospital Service, to-day. “The memory of his fine Example will remain with all of us in the service." Dr. McClintick's body will be taken to Warm Springs, Va., to-morrow for burial. MONTREAL MARKETS MONTREAL, Aug. 14-Oats, Can- adian Western, No. 2, 45 to -i5l;No 3, 44 to 44;; extra No. 1 feed, 45.
