The French government won a vote of confidence in the House of Deputies yesterday by a. votie of 346 to 247 to give to the government extraordinary powers to July 31 to handle the monetary situation. Baron Von Neurath of Germany will visit England on June 23 as a guest of the British Government and ‘ Foreign Secre- tary Eden. These two pieces of foreign news helped London today, domestically, however, labor news continues urtsatistactory. Ameri- can Pegileum Institute figures are favorable. Gasoline stocks show a reduction of 498,800 barrels for last week and crude oil pro- duction was down 22,250 barrels daily. Dividend meetings today include Consolidated Oil, I-I. L. Green and Pullman. In view of the mixed character of the news we would expect an irregular market today. We still believe that before an important advance is resumed a trading range will de- velop and therefore a trading at- titude can still be followed. MONTREAL. June 16 - New Abitibi Plan — R. S. Business got away to a quiet start, with slight losses predomin- ant. As dealings proceeded scat- tered issues moved ahead for gains of fractions to around a point. It was the failure of these rises t.o generate enthusiasm in the rest of the market which brought a. gen- eral softening, brokers said. In terms of the Associated Press average of 60 shares, the market was off .07 of a point at. 63.8. Transactions declined to 698,630 shares from 927,463 Tuesday. Canadian stocks were lower. Distillers - Seagram. International Nickel, McIntyre. ‘Walkers and I-Iollinger declined fractions. Minor gains were shown in Brazilian, Ford and lmperialOil. Lake Shore, Canadian Marconi and Dome were unchanged. On the one hand, as current trading background. they said. were such favorable items as the brisk rebound of electric power output and the report of "iron age“ that strikes are having a "minimum" of influence on steel markets. On the other side were rising fears labor disturbances, if prolonged may make a dent in trade and industry.
