Mr. Gladstone’s portrait by Mr. Millais in the British Royal Acadamy exhibition is striking enough to lead the London Times to observe that “ it is little te say that there has been no such portrait yet painted of the care- worn and intellectual statesman as he is now.” Sir Frelerick Leighton, the Presi- dent of the London Royal Acadamy, in a recent after dinner speech before the institute of British Architects avowed the necessity of a greater solid- arity and acloser union between the sister arts. “Inspirit and its inmost roots,” he said, “ All art is one. Weatherly, an English cavalry officer clapped his son, a boy of 13, who was with him, on horseback, kissed him and told him to run for his life. The lad jumped from the saddle, striking the horse a lash which sent it galloping off, and said : “Father, I'll die with you.” The father handed his revolver to the child just as the Zulus reached, over British bodies, the place where they stood. Weatherly slew five Zulus before he fell, but the son was killed at once. The Moncton Jimes says :—* The reaction to the emigration fever has commenced, In Saturday’s issue we stated that a letter had been received from a party in Manitoba which threw out but little encouragement for emi- gration to that quarter. Now we learn that Mr. Chas. McLean, a native of Sussvx, has returned home after spend- ing some years in Manitoba; and a Mr. Sullivan, of Summerside, who left for Dakota a few weeks ago, has also re- rurned, Mr. Sullivan was in Moncton during Saturday and yesterday. He says that there is no chance in the Western States for emigrants, especial- ly those without sufficient capital to make a good start for themselves—and probably those who have any capital could invest it at home safer, if not more profitably. Mr. Sullivan also states that emigrant wagons are met on the roads at almost every point, and that many settlers are compelled to live in clay huts. s — Ask Yourself these Questions. There never has been a time when the heal- ing of so many dilferent diseases has been caused by outward application as the present, It is an undisputed fact that over half of the entire population of the globe resort to the use of ordinary plasters. DR. MELVIN’s CapsicuM Porous PLASTERS are acknowledged by all who have used them, to act quicker than any other plaster they ever before tried, and that one of these plasters will Physiciansin all ages have thoroughly tested and well know the effect of Capsicum; and it has always been more or less used as a medieal agent for anoutward application; but it is only of very recent, date that its advan- tages in a porous plaster have been discovered. Being, however, convinced of the wonderful enres efiected by Dr. Mrivrn’s CAPSICUM Porous PLasTers, and their superiority over all other plasters, they now actually prescribe them, in» their practice, for such eases as rheumatism, pain in the side and baek, and all such eases as have required the use of plasters orliniment. After you have tried other plas- ters and liniments, and they have failed, and you want a certain eure, ask your druggist for Dr. MELVIN’s CAPSICUM PoROUS PLASTER, You can hardly believe your own convictions of its wonderful effects.
