In the canvass of the City Building Chief MacArthur was ably assisted by Mr. Ralph Croc- kett. (CP)- A revolu- tionary process of heating steel ingots by electric induction was put into operation here Friday at the Vancouver rolling mills of Western Canada Steel. Ltd. C. D. Hobbs. company president. said it was the first time electric induction has been used anywhere for heating ingots for rolling. He said the process cuts the time for heating ingots by 75 per cent and will result in increased production and lower fuel costs. Mr. Hobbs said the installation: was designed and built in Canadal and predicted the process would. be adopted wherever electric pow-1 er is plentiful. - The process heals ingots to 2.- 300 degrees Fahrenheit in from eight to 12 minutes compared to 45 minutes with oil-fired furnaces.
