NEW YORK, sept. 11-Although
little Michael Bciineca, the three-
year-old son at Dr. Michael Bcimaca,
a prominent Italian physician, is
today safely in the hands ot his re-
latives, having been held lor nearly
three months a captive by “Black
Hand” kidnappers, the abductors oi
the boy have so tai- escaped the po-
lice trap set for them when it was
learned that the little fellow was
about to return to his guardians.
Fifty detectives oi the Italian squad
had been lor hours watching terry
and railroad stations and the vicin-
ity of Dr. Scimeca's home in Msn-
hattan in expectancy oi trapping the
kidnappers, when the lad mysterious-
ly turned up late last night at the
home oi Dr. Scimeca's iathei'-in-law
in Brooklyn.
The police had heard that Scimecal
was trying to rinse $7,000, wui¢n_nnn|,
been demanded as a ransom for th*
boy. Dr. Scinieca yesterday, howev-
er, denied that he had pt-lid a cent
for the return oi the child.
Much mystery surrounds the cii-mini
stances of the child's re-appearziricc.
It was said at the Petrella home
that a telephone message was receiv-
ed during the evening that little
Michael would be found walking on
Fifty-Filth Street, Manhattan. The
Petrellas, driven in their carriage,
left for that locality, they spied the
lad alone on the sidewalk. The boy
uttered a cry of joy when he saw his
relatives and was soon snugly wrap-
ped up in the carriage and on thc
way to the Petrellas’ Brooklyn homc.
A report. which had come to the
police that the kidnapped boy, in-
stead oi being found alone in the
street, had been brought to the
waiting carriage at the curb by a
rough looluing man, who disappeared
as soon as he had delivered his
charge, was yesterday helm: investi-
gated by the police. .lilcutcnant Va.-
cliris, of the Italian squad, declared
that he knows thc captors and ar-
rests in the case are considered pro-
bable. V
Miclmel Scimcca was spirited away
from his parents’ home on June 17th
last. by mon who lured him with
promises of candy. tiliortly after-
wi-irnls demands for large sumo of
money for his vans-oiu begun to pour
in on his father thrnugli mails and
mysterious telephone messages.
Threats that the boy would be killed
were also received and his .parents
were in sin agony of terror lcst harm
