The difficulty of deteriaining this pomt hasarisen, to a large extent, from the fact {that thie Lacayans, the aboriginal inhabitants of these islands, were carried off by the Spaniards to work the geld mines of Hispaniola, and, through erueity, and hard toil, all perished miser ably. Fét a hundred years.afterwards the islands wéve left whinhabited, so that no vestive of a tradition remained to guide to the spot on which Columbus landed. The island has been variously identitied with Turk's Island, by Navarette (1825); with Mayaguana by Varnhagen (1564); with Sam*na, by Fox—an American —(1880); with Cat lalands by, Washington lrving (1828); and also by Humboldt (1835); and with Vatling’s Island, by Munoz (1898); by Beteher (1856); by Peschel (1857); and by Major (18¢1). Everyone of these features is mettioned in Colambus’ diary, so that the question may be regarded as settled, for there is no escaping from His_ Excellency’s conclusion. Just published, a new edizion of Dr. Gulverwell’s Celebrated Essay on the radical cure of Spermatorahcea or in- capacity induced by excess or early indisere- tion. The celebrated author in this admirable essay, clearly demonstrates from a thirty years successful practice, that the alarming consequences of early error may be radically cured; pointing out a mode of cure at once simple, certain and cflectual, by means of which every sufferer, no matter what his con- dition may be, may cure himself cheaply, privately and radically. 42” This lecture should be in the hands of every youth and every man in the land, Sent under seal, in a plain envelope, to any address, post-paid, on receipt of four cents or two postage stamps.
