It is most sincerely to be hoped that no acts of mob violence or hoodlum 'lawlessness against the Chinese in America may take place. Such a thing would be a disgrace to our religion and civilization alike, and would go so far to make us appear on a par with those in China who are insulting and m\i.r- deriug those whom they call “foreign devils" there.
