(Patiiot) The death of Mr. John Balderston at his home, Garfield, on Thursday the 9th ult., removes from that settlement one.ot its oldest and most respected residents. Mr. Balderston was an in- dustrious, upright, unassuming man. and a. staunch friend of Liberalism. He leaves a widow, four daughters and three sons to mourn their loss. The remains were intexred in the Belfast cemetry on the following Saturday, the Rev. Mr. Sinclair olhciating. One of the strangest circumstances ever recorded on the Island, as taking place at the funeral, occured at the funeral of the late Mr. Balderston, whose obituary is _writen above. Mr. Samuel Nicholson, a son-in-law of the `decease, drove from his home at Belle River to attend the funeral. Arriving there he unharnessed his horse and whilein the act of “tugging” him in the stable dropped dead. Everything was done to rescuscitate him but in vain. The final summons had come. The remains were taken to his late home at Belle River. and the funeral took place on the following Saturday to the same cemetery, the same clergy- man olliciating. Mr. Nicholson was 61 years of age, and much respected in the community in which he lived. He had an attack of la grippe about two weeks previous to his death, but had apparently recovered. He leavesawidow and a family of nine childred to mourn. WEST GETS THE DECISION. New York, l~`e`b 28.
