But I mean like wow When the carnival frenzy hits Charlottetown they pull all the stops, open the throttle wide, step on the g'as—or whatever other simile you can think of at the moment. They did it yesterday, and how! A Gold Cup and Saucer par- e that topped all parades ever seen here was only the be- ginning of a day that promises to be one never forgotte . color. a n,i laughter. And dominating every- thin ty ever saw gathered here at once. . That part of the terrific show was spearheaded by the go r- geous Gold Girls who they had been specially born to fill their parts in the show. And what a showing they m a d e. Brother. are they beautiful. The judges of the Miss America contest are wasting their time in Atlantic City. ’ Tremendous in its scope and appeal to the people. the big Gold Cup and Saucer Parade yesterday was a success. From early in the morning people were lining the streets on the route. Chairs and tables were placed on lawns a n d a strictly Mardi Gras atmosphere held swa . Camp benches lined the curbs in every residential section and it gave all Charlottetown an ap pearance of London during coronation parade. CEEERED. CLAPPED .At principal points people were lined five and six deep and cheered and oats. Part of the fanfare for th e big Evening Patriot Gold Cup and Saucer - race the parade featured horses and more horses. were kids on ponies or in sulkiel behind them; there was no Dee‘: Boy in the ‘E tend a f parade but tltere was plenty of speed in evidence as a flock of drivers in colorful racing silks drove their trotters and pacers along the streets: than: were girls on horseback and wearing everything from formal riding habits to the Island tartan. But above all there was life and color and truly tremendous crowds. Never before'has this writer seen so many people at- parade in this city. They came rom Tignis and Califor- nia, M o n t a g u e and Florida. from all parts of Canada. The came in slacks and shorts. busi- ness suits and dresses — a n d even wore bathing suits on the oats. JAMMED CITY They came in from’ their cot- tages and tents, from their trailers and parking lots, their farms and villages towns. They jammed the city beyond what town planners er thought it would hold. Nobod worked in town yes- terday. Stenographers and re- port-‘rs left their typewriters to watch. Lawyers forgot the icourts, but doctors had an ad- ivantage as the parade wa 8 ‘designed to pass the hosvltals and probably everyone not der an anaesthetic was watch- There were thousands of kids actually outnumbered by and long after the parade pass- ed they were still jamming the sidewalks and the stores.
