The following, which is extremely inter- esting in view of the possibilities of the situation in Macedonia, is a battle song from the Macedovian Calendar for 1897, translated by an Engli-h gentleman who is good enongh to send it to us.—London Chronicle. I lift my voice in desert land— Tbe woods are heard replying; And every hill on every hand Is thick with mavy a warrior band, On high their bsnuers flying. Awake the mountains bleak and bare— Village and farm awaken ! All souis awaken everywhere; A secret movement comes —and there Thousands their stand have taken. No more we'll drink, mv lads, as late— Enough of wine aud drinking! What else but eiavery was our fate ? Now he tha’ does tie tyrant hate Has blood to shed unshrinking. There in the northern villages Fights day and night thy brother, With monsters two the struggle is ; The cunning of the Slave is this— And the T'urk’s knife the other.
