WILLIAM LEATH POOLE, Master in Chancery (mm my perm" °r person' "ming sud it is very dlillcnlt to secure them to contract for the building of s dwel- “Elm ,rms was the case ,ut fa" r else they go to westem packers when few hogs were sold until Dec- ember- after the customers in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick had bou- ght their supplies elsewhere, necessi- tating our carrying this stock until the spring and summer- at a serious cost of interest, depreciation, etc., as well as losing the trade last fall Again, when stocks are light in September and October the price is generally at the highest, as we can market the product promptly and con- sequently pay you good prices for hogs, which has been the case for years. This is important to you. as well as to ourselves. Another point wo want to emphasise is the weight of hogs. For YSHFB We have tried to Inform you that the market demands meat cut from hogs weighing 120 to 180 lbs dressed weight. We have paid more for those than for heavier ones, simply bo- cause we can sell the meats al higher prices. In doing lhis we have been trying to encourage thc “Produc- tion of Quality”, or encouraging the man who produces what the market dc-niuut,ls_ And while thcro are men who complain of our methods (which by the way, is what the Government and Egg Circle people are at con- siderable cost attempting for the egg business). yet we feel that im- provement ls being mode, and we appreciate the ce-operation of those who are making efforts to supply 11085 of the desired weight. and we still continue to pay an advanced IJNC9 f0l' all hogs from 120 to 180 lbs. In fact, in the future cven more difference will have to be made l't_-tween the price of light and licuvy hogs In Toronto, according to a recent report of thc press, the packers are paying for stage -ic per Ib.. less than for ba- con hogs, sows, which include all heavy 8c per lbb. loss und heavy bacon hogs over 250 lbs., live (say 180 dressed) ‘A-c per lb. loss than for scloct bacon hogs, under 180 lbs, \\'c may say further that thc Canad- iau West. which up to two ycnrs ago was a vcry large markci for Ontario packers, is now raising vcry large quantities of hogs of select qilalily, and after the prcsenf dcniiind (as a rcsult of the war.) is over there is going to be very inlcnsivo competition in thc pork business- in fact there is now-, as the largo American pack- ers are established in Canaria who with their very large business cui prices so close as to make it most dif- ficult for the smaller packers to con- duct a successful business. This can only be done by your supplying a supcrior quality ofhogs, and we on our part curing it in such a manner as to command it price on its own merits. Our interests arc mutual. Give us more hogs early in the year, and give us hogs well fed, well finished to dress 120 to 180 lbs. - Yours truly, DAVIS dt FRASER 2332-7-30Mf3w. _ J WANTED OUT WEST. Out of the West comes thc call for _ help. Farm laborers are wantcd. In former years the same call has gone forth-always answered nobly. This year the call is stronger, thc necessity is greater. The crops are ripening fast -the yield is abundant. With the harvest wcll taken care of, the whccls fof prosperity will drive with grcolcr force and this great Country will fulfill well the tremendous de- mands new boing made upon it in sup~ plying various products.
