BAIN BIRDATHON The Natural History Society will be again fielding birdathon teams for the 1994 Bain Birdathon on Saturday, May 28th. This year, the results of the team you sponsor will be used to calculate the amount of pledges for those who pledge an amount per species seen. However, even though there is a Society team for the fund raiser, all members are encouraged to head for their favourite spot or spots to record the species of birds they see during the day. For the enthusiasts, the ‘maximunl period is the 24 hours from midnight to midnight. The results from the counts will be published in the Island Naturalist and observers should report their sightings list to Dan McAskill by June 10th. This year, Ray Cooke, the Society’s President, issued a challenge to other birders in the province to try to beat his Birdathon Team's total species count for the day. Anyone wishing to take up the challenge simply has to call Ray at 894-9695. It should be a lot of fun as well as yield valuable occurrence information on the birds in the province. The Society will contribute half of the funds raised from the Birdathon to the Geoff Hogan Biology Honours Research Fund and another worthwhile project. To contribute to the birdathon, simply fill in and mail the attached pledge sheet to the Society. Tax receipts will be automatically mailed on receipt of the donation cheque.
