He will join Tony “the Weasal” Macken- zie and Greg “the Hammer” Wil- son to form a new “Eastern Cor- nection line”. Second year star Jason “Chess Boy” Pinkson will be re- united with fellow Newfies Chad “Chess Boy” Butt and Darrren “Chess Boy” Chafe on the patent “Labradorian Tomato line”. Scoring sensation Gino “the Flying Frenchman” Cormier has Debating Society News. The UPEI Dabating Society b pleased to say that the week- nd workshop held on last Sun- ay (October 23) was a smash We are certain that e valuable information we re- eived will be a great asset at he Dalhousie International De- bating Tournament this week- nd. Although the entire soci- ty could not attend the work- hop due to other engagements fe were hardly disappointed by he turn out. Seven members bf our society were present while he total turn out was around wenty people. We even had p team from Three Oaks Sec- bndary School from Summerside pnd their advisor John O’Malley. hese four high-school students learly showed the initiative to become fine University debators, hich our society would be oboe o have. LUCCSS. John Filliter was unfortunatly delayed due to typical Ferry tim- ings but this did not deter anyone ftom staying. He arrived at ap- proximately 11:30 (one hour late) and gave an excellent presenta- tion on Debating formats and styles. Personal information for @ debators techniques and pub- lic speaking ideas were also dis- cussed. Many thanks are ex- tended to Mr. Filliter for giving us his time and experience. On a personal note, the soci- ety would like to thank our Pres- ident, Vivian Huizenga and our Thursday, October 27, 1988 faculty advisor Dr. D. Sims of the AVC, for arranging this workshop which we all truely needed. After Mr. Filliter’s presenta- tion, we broke up for along lunch at Mothers, then held a round robbin of debates. The resolu- tions were: BIRT; “the Canadian gov’t should pay housewives for their housekeeping duties.” “Marriage Contracts should be annually renewable” “Teachers should be retires at 40” “The price of souls is to great.” and finnally,“The Canadian gov’t should pay to help save the whales trapped in Alaska.” The true value of the work- shop will be measured in our plac- ing at the competition at Dal- housie this weekend. We held a open debate in the Pit of Robertson Library on Na- tional Student Day with the reso- lution, “Students are on apathetic bunch.” We believe the student turn out disproved the resolution. We also believe the Debating So- ciety is the best society so we now formally challenge any other society to a debate of their par- ticular field of interest. Contact Vivian, Bob Smith, or Michael Woodman. This is your opportu- nity to prove us wrong. Go for it. ’ Micheal Woodman,Sec. UPEI Debating October 24,1988 = returned from the Magdalen Is- land to centre his two finesse line- mates, Kent “Hatchet” Creighton and Les “Spaghetti legs” Smith. brian “Hard Rock” McCol- lough, the former Southern New Brunswick scor- ing champ, will join Saint John- ers Greg “the Fly” Flynn (1987 penalty minute leader) and Kelly “Mad Dog” VanBuskirk on the “Irving Whale” line. Scott “the Caper” Lewis and Cory “Zipperhead” Wallace will police the talented scoring threat, Jim “Pray for Rain” Comeau. The defense will be anchored by Kent “the Bearded one” Ron- ahan, Todd “Tyson” Byers, Scott “Ogelthorpe” Gallent and the en- force by which all other enforcers will be measured, Mark “Demoli- tion” Ronahan. Not so surprisingly, the Soc- cer Panthers have left the intra- mural league. Eli the “Pink lady” MacEachern, after last year’s al- tercation with Mark Ronahan, has left the province, fearing for his life. = ee em.
