All who were at the Rink during the Tupper-Foster meeting will remember Mr. Fosters caustic cliaracterisation of the Liberal leaders, their party followers and the divers policies of different years. In Mr. Fosters bold illustration the Liberal leaders were represented as Western bullies, armed with revolvers and bowie knives, and the electors were personified as _"tender feet" newly arrived in the country, who were billden t0 dance to various tunes and forced to beat time to the `muSic with unwilling feet. The honorable gentlenians supporters ap- plauded him rapturously, and that the pleasure was mutual is attested by the fact that Mr. Foster repeated the illustra- Wllmen’s Waterproof Gaiters. §@S38% This is a. new idea and _one that should meet with popular favor. In the philosphic atmosphere of Pleas- ant View the illustration seems hardly so good as Mr. Foster evidently thinks it.We say nothing in defence of the bullying lead- ers.| From what we knowof them they are pretty well able to take care of themselves But what self-respecting elector cares to be described as a "tcnderfoot"? The mil- lion or more of free and independent electors of Canada are as intelligent, manly and patriotic an aimy of voters as everlin any country or in any age elected a Per- liament. If they should resent the stigma which the term “tenderfoot" or “beggar” implies they will doubtless also rec all that the leaders they follow are -men of their own 1' :ee choice. And as to the music to which they were invited, not forced to dance, reciprocity is a good old tune which has yet a charm for many, and Free Trade music is still a favorite air in that grandest country in the world, Great l Britain. Ships by tens of thousands bear- ‘ ing the grand old dag of Britain and free trade, and carrying half the commerce of the world are today dancing to that music on every sea. Don't decry that music too much, Mr. Foster, for there are many _ electors in Canada, not tenderfoot or beggar, who rejoice that our trade, if not yet free from trammels, is yet a little freer than it was, and has grown by leaps and bounds with its increasing freedom. 1 And there have been some other tunes in the Liberal concert tc which the Can- adian people have danced merrily and with a will. One of these is the tune of Preferential Trade with Britain. It is keyed up to the same pitch as God Save the Queen, and some loyal and patriotic singers think it quite a charming melody. The movement is not unlike that of the Free Trade and the Reciprocity airs, md one who has voluntarily kept time to them can easily dance to its music, if not too much crippled with the rheumatism of high protection. Another tune set for the i people of Canada by the same composers is called Soldiers of the Queen. Some three thousand of our best and bravest and strongest have stepped out to that music, across the ocean to far away South I Africa. and the entire country,:not_the ten- 5” 1 4. _ BACK- AC E _'ii:ie~.....°=°~fi-»~ ir" _ YOU IIC G62 - Backache it will develop img lomethin worse-B ' h ' ~°“°i°f 'lrfefil' ani; Ill! rubbing? and,doct6rin_g ywf _ bl¢k» Clll'8,_the kidneys.'Th¢¢-5 I _'*°°90l\Q kidney medicine has ’S ' __ _ jH» 1 _cout plug of '“Patrio~ Qiieeusimsb 5 5 lper cent lf cheviing tgb anon ig 20 ing in an election, but you must have a good tune or the people will not dance. derfcet or the beggars, but the free pros- perous citizens of Canada, have applaud- ed their going, and kept time to the same music. So too with the mourn- heart. Mourn over the wickedness of others and you mourn alone. Even the beggars and the tenderfeet are suspicious of aparty when mourning over the ex- ceeding wicked nessfof the other party.
