Calif. Each rocket, 14 feet long by three inches in diameter. carried a total of 1.000 letters in three specially designed fins. All rock- eLs functioned perfectly and land- ed with n a 500 - toot circle at the end of their nights, according to George S. James. director of the rocket research institute. Young Couple Are Honored A pleasant evening was spent at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sterling Lord, North Tryon, on July 11, 1957. when approximately 125 reiativea.. friends and neighbors gathered' there to tender a shower for the recent newly weds. Mr. and Ms-s.l Donald Lord (nee Janet Bell). i The young couple were eacortedl to their seats by Miss Joyce Bell. and Mr. Roger Lord. while Mrs. Sheldon Dixon played "Here Comes the Bride". . - The basket of lovely gifts were carried in by Marion Kay Dixon and Carl Dixon. Opening the gifts were Mrs. Richard Newsome and Mrs. Vernon Inman. reading the names and versea. Mrs. Harieigh iiowatt. arranging on tables. Mrs., Ralph Fay and Mrs. Percy Foy.' The couple received gifts of lin- en. china, silver and money, etc., for which Donald thanked one and all on behalf of his wife. A delicious lunch was served as- sisled hy ladies of the district. On the following Saturday, a sec- ond shower was tendered. also at the home of Mr. and Mrssteriing Lord, in which relatives of th .l young couple gathered. l The many lovely gifts. including silver, electric appliances, linen. etc. were opened by the bride, rcading the verses was .Vlrs.
