Mr. 'l`ucker’s book is mainly founded upon personal narratives of peculiar interest as it contains the personal element which is so often lacking in military literature. Every page contains a living picture, for the narraties are related in the simple and vigorous language of the soldier. SOME HORSES.-The large dy- namo for the Kensington Electric Light Company was transferred on Saturday from Summerslde. One of the heavy draya used by R. T. Hol- man, Limited, for their mail order shipments was secured and 6 horses were attached to lt. All went well until the dray and.its heavy freight rcacherl a piece of had road. There it remained despite the coaxing and persuasion of the teamsters. After the attempt was again made in vain a messenger was dispatched to Hol- maii’s to learn if they would not sup- ply a. pair of horses to make 8 in all. This was agreed. The heaviest pair in the stables was sent out (which, by the way. was a pair that is much admired around Summerside). Hol- man’s teamster insisted on the other 6 horses being removed and after har- nessing the big team to the load the heavy freight was quickly gotten un- der way and transported over the bad portion of road about a mile in ex- tent by only the single pair of horses. THE EXHIBITION--Not a little credit for the success of the recent Provincial Exhibition of Prince Ed- ward Island is due to the judges, who so impartially and skilfully consider- ed the vast number of exhibits placed before them; and the exhibitors all, without a single exception, agree that _never have they been so thoroughly pleased and satisfied, so far as the judging was concerned, as on the pre- sent occasion. They speak in the highest terms of the judges, who ex- erted every endeavor to do full and complete justice by all. On Satur- day a Guardian reporter had the plea- sure of interviewing some of the judges from the mainland and ascer- taining their impressions in regard to the Exhibition and Prince Edward; Island generally. They all have noth- ing but compliments for the Island Province, which they think is “a remarkably pretty place, with excel- lent soil and splendid crops.” Mr. M. Greenlees, of Bowmanville, Dur- ham County, Ontarlo, judged the Ont., judged the swine; and Mr. P. D. McArthur, Howick, Quebec, the Ayrshires. Mr. Greenlees expressed agreeably surprised with the quality of the horses here, some' of which were, particularly good and he thought Baron Kelvin “a great horse, whose stock will be a credit to the Island.” Mr. Grcenlees said he liked the ls- land very much, having seen nothing to equal it. Mr. Jones, speaking of the exhibitors, said he had never had anything to do with a more sports- manlike, gentlemaiily and apprecia- tive lot of men than the farmers of Prince Edward I sland. “ I was greatly pleased," he remarked, "with the admirable way in which they re- garded the results of the judging, the winners being modest, while the los- ers took their defeat right manly. The rivalry between them was keen but very friendly, and this made my task so much easier and plcasanler." Mr. P. D. McArthur judged the-.Ayrshires, Jerseys, Guernseys and ' Ayrshire breeds. He thought the quality was quite up to the standard. He thought a great deal of Milkmaid 7th, the hold- er of the Canadian record, and said that she was doing what a great many other cows were not,-reproducing in her offspring, individuals of prime merit. He said that 'the Jerseys were considerably better than those he saw last year and lit for any show ring. In regard to Holsteins, he re- ferred particularly to nn especially good herd shown by Messrs. Lee and Ciarzce, whose aged bull he described as “one of the greek bulls in Canada, and is impress g his characteristics on his offspring, which makes him val- uable not only as a show bull but as a breeding animal." The exhibits, he thought, were of excellent quality, and highly creditable to Prince Ed- ward Island. Mr, McArthur said that in the poultry industry, Prince Ed- ward Island is the banner Province of Canada. TUESDAY _ WEDDING BELL8. -The marriage took place in Haverhill, Mass, on Sept 15th, Rev. J. J.
