INTERESTING NOTES FOR PREACHERS 45S WELL AS LAYMEN. eo Two Anglican missionaries have been sent to Kurdistan. A general vaceination_has been the order in St. Joseph’s (R. C.) College, Ottawa. The whole number of Unitarian Societies on the continent is 336. They have 405 ministers. A new Presbyterian church 50x36 feet has just been opened at Pembina at a cost $1,250, all or which is paid. A new Russian Church teinple is to be. dedicated at Mostow in August next. It was begun in 1833, and will cost over #13,000,000. The Texas Advocate gives an incontro- vertible argument why the church should care for saperannuated preachers — ‘‘ the Chureh should cherish them for the work they have done.” The pastor of a Roman Catholic Church at Greencastle, Ind., publicly reproved and dischared his choir, because they had perpetrate! a fraud in the rafiling of a piano at a fair. The Enylish Unitarians have -arranged to publish 100,000 copies of Dr, Channing’s complete works at the nominal price ef a shilling each, in commemoration of the hundredth birthday of Channing, which falls on the 7th April next. Of the 872 Anglican churches iniLondon, 499 have weekly and 43 daily communion ; 245 have daily service, 375 have surpliced cheirs, 33 have eucharistic vestments, 12 use incense, and 56 alter lights, and in 214 the ** eastward position ” is observed. ‘The Chu chman calls attention to the large number of clergymen of other denomina- tious who have joined the Protestant Epis- copal Church. it gives the names of 26 ministers who have thus come into the Episcopal Vhurch. Eight of them came rom the Congregational Church, five from the Methodist, four from the Baptist, and three trom the Presbyterian. The Vicar of Sedgeley refused te attend a corpora‘.on dinner because the Metho- dist minister was asked to say grace. On the other side, a Cengregationalist rainister got up anc! left the table because he was not asked to speak before the Roman Catholic priest. The Cat rolics claim that they have estab- lished 9,000 schools in Belgium in four months, aid that 2.500 teachers of the pub- lic scheols havn resigned. But the Belgian Prime Minister states that out ef 4,376 Catholic schools 168 were deserted when the new law went into effect, and 578 of the 1,135 students of the Catholic normal schools have deserted to the Government acheols. The Woman's Foreign Missionary So- ciety and tie Ladies’ Board of Missions of the Presbyterian Church, organized to co- operate with the Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions in 1870, raised the first year $7,000; in 1872, $27,000; in 1876, $96,000; in lg qi, $124 000; and last year, $136,000— nearly one-third of the entire income of the Foreign Board. fight Rev.
