Atomic Detection Devices I By DAVE I(elN'l'0Il OITAWA lCPl-The army has left no doubt that it is determined to be fully prepared for atomic warfare. It was learned Wednesday that every Canadian soldier will he is- sued with an atomic radiation de- tection device known as a dosi- meter. lnfachthearhiyhassettledon two types of dosimeters for serv- ice issue. No contracts have yet been let but the army has set aside funds for dosimeter pur- chase. one type will be worn by every soldier and form part of his medi- cal record. It will be read by ex- perts after the soldier has been in atomic battle or test to determine whether he has been subjected to too much radiation. The other. pencil-like type will he carried by officers and senior non-commissioned officers to de- termine the amount of radiation in 'a unit's immediate area. htiil other, bulkier types will he car- ried by expert atomic teams in "feeling out" an area for radio- activity to determine dangerous or safa-c "hot" or "cool"-tones.
