A spirit of optimism in the stabil- ity and permanence of the industry was manifest on every hand and, no doubt, inasmuch as fox farming has passed successfully through the boom period and so far has weath- ered the onslaughts of the depres- sion, it has reached a stage of dc- ' velopment that can _inslly be char- acterized as a stabilized Live Stock Industry. IS OPTIMISTIC As Minister of Agriculture lor . ."1-_'»vince and as one vitally iniercs.- rd in the industry, I anx pleased io associate myself with those who possess an optimistic outlook for ;he future of fur farming and I'can see ample evidence for such cpti- mism. Reports from the fur auction houses indicnie that world markets are bare of silver fox pelts, that there is an increasing and insistent demand from thc trade for this . commodity, resulting in a strength- I enirg of the mnrke: and an ilicrease l la " _ I of prices for all grades. The year 1031 was probably the peak year in the production of fox pelts, and so many of these were offered that some pessimists were fearful that we had reached the point of saturation if not over-por- duction; besides many potential breeders were pelted in 1931 because .he farmer required funds to carry on and it was through the silver combining in a Maritime Regional Fox Show to be held in this City on November 2nd, 3rd and 4th. This furnishes breeders of foxes an op- portunity to compete with their fel- low breeders in the Show Ring and gives them first hand knowledge of how their foxes compare with those ol’ other breeders. This no doubt, will have a stimulating influence and will inspire an urge in breeders , to still greater achievement. So val- uable did our Govemment ,of which I am a humble member, con- sider this Exhibition or Show, that it contributed generously towards its promotion. In conclusion let me, at your Min- ister of Agriculture, express tht hope that our breeders will patron- -ze this Show and that they be no‘ content with past achievcmcnls, bu iy constant application to the prc luction of better and still bett nimals will malnlafn that leadc :ip in Foxdom that our Provir .as already given to the world. During our connection with them we have purchased over a million dollars worth of Silver Fox furs from the farmers of Prince Edward Island and have given them satisfactory prices. This year we will be buying again and will be in a position, we believe, to do better for them than any other firm operating in a similar capacity. For those who do not wish to take advantage of our cash prices we will be prepared to accept their furs on a consignment basis, sending them direct to Hudson’s Bay Company to be sold at their auction sales, the first one of which is January 25th, 1933. ` We advise every fox rancher in Prince Ed- ward Island who is alive to his own best inter- ests to get in touch with us. ll|cLUllE and MacKIllll0N SILVER FOXES and FURS ` Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island I li I THE WURIUS GREAT FUX ULASUIU at UHARLUTTETUWN.
