     The historical capital of Charlottetown has a bright new landmark - The Fathers of Con- 
     
     federation Memorial Building. This handsome centre for the lively arts is Canada’s birthday 
     
     present to Prince Edward Island, commemorating the centennial of the first Confederation meet- 
     
     ing back in 1864. Crowds of visitors have already toured the art gallery and museum, and at- 
     
     tended performances in the excellent theatre in the Confederation complex. 
     
    
   
   
    
     On the first day of July, the-curtain goes up on a summer-long “Festival of Laughter and 
     
     Music.” Headlining the program are Canada’s favourite court jesters, John Wayne and Frank 
     
     Shuster. Also to be presented are “Spring Thaw,” Canada’s own annual revue in sketches and 
     
     song; a new musical comedy, “Anne of Green Green Gables,” based on the internationally be- 
     
     loved books by Island authoress Lucy Maude Montgomery; and actor John Drainie, inan evening 
     
     of wit and humour, “Laugh with Leacock.” 
     
    
   
   
    
     There will be daily puppet shows for the children, and qfseries of Sunday evening con- 
     
     certs, with a distinct Maritime flavour, featuring poetry readings, folk songs and classical artists. 
     
     Art exhibits and Canadiana will be on display at the Centre throughout the summer. 
     
    
   
   
    
     And, out-of-doors, the season’s traditional regattas, fairs, highland games and harness 
     
     racing will round out the busy calendar of events. All this, plus a thousand miles of beaches and 
     
    
   
   
    
     some of the most charming countryside you’ve ever laid eyes on. For a summer of family fun and
