Death ov Steraen MacnonaLd.Mr , Stephen Macdonald, whose death at the, comparitively early age of 44 yeara we announce today, was well kuown and deservedly esteemed, He was for several years engineer of one of the ferry steamers plying between Cherlottetown and South- port, and was well liked by his associates and the travelling public. A year or two ago he was attacked by cancer, and was obliged to retire from active work. He leavea a widow and three clildren to mourn their loss. Wira a Foreep Cuecx—The Cineinnati Commercial Tribune says: Several days ago one of the local banks discovered that a check drawn in favor of the Methodist Book Concern, which had heen deposi ed ty it and gone through the Clearing House in regular form, was a forged one. As the check however was only for $5, instead of sending it back to the clearing bank the teller took it to the Methodist Book Con- cern and told them it was a forgery. After looking at it carefully in a thonghtful manner the head of the firm said thats man purchased a Bible with that check. Tue Art or Savixe.— Fiber and Fabric, a trade journal, telle the following story, which speaks for itself: A young man who went to Boston last fall sveceeded in getting work at $l a day. He had no money and doubted his ability to live on euch wages. He found alunch room in Washington Street, where twenty-one meal tickets were sold for $1, or at the rate of 44 centsa meal. He obtained a room for $l a week. Asa result of his steady labor and persistent economy from Oct. let to March 20th, he had been able to buy two pew euits of clothes and put $75 in the savings bank. He now has $125 in the kank aud hopes by next spring to have cash enough to start a little business of his own, Overa Hovse.—The Frankie Carpenter Co., scored another success at the Opera House last evening. ‘**Trise,” a comedy- drama of western life and picturing inci- dents of the old mining days in California in “49” was presented in an excellent manner. Too much cannot be eaid in praise of Mr. Grady’s rendering of the character of “Judge Lovetoddy,”while Miss Frankie as “Triss,” a rough child brought up among the miners, captivated and higb- ly pleaced the audience. The songs of both Mr. Grady and Miss Frankie were well received and they responded to several encores. Tonight the “ Ranch King,” will be preseuted, Mr. Grady play- ing the part of negro. Tie famous cake walk as presented on Wednesday evening will be repeated by special request.
